ELK RIVER 71, APPLE VALLEY 53<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was only one option today on the day before Thanksgiving, a non-conference AAAA matinee in Elk River. The Tuesday overnight snow dump did not halt the contest. Both school districts already had the day off baked into the schedule; therefore the 2 p.m. start.<\/p>\n

The Elks scored on four of their first five possessions building an 8-4 lead with six of those points coming on second chance opportunities and that drew an AV time out. ER closed with the last five points of the half to go to the locker room with a 42-31 advantage.<\/p>\n

ER stumbled out of the gates at half time coughing up the ball on seven of their first eight possessions. The starting unit sat down en masse at the 13:51 mark to contemplate their decision making process. This was a flip 180 of the start of the game as the Eagles had an 8-4 start. ER did not score a field goal for the first nine minutes of the second half. The long distance game kicked in again with two straight 3s. AV decided to press and Langbehn capitalized with lay ups for six straight points.<\/p>\n

Not only was junior 6-2 center Johanna Langbehn the high scorer with 20 points on 10\/11 shooting inside five feet; she also quickly kicked the ball out of the blocks for five distributions. Alexa Engebretson knocked down five 3s for the Elks, three of those assisted by Langbehn.<\/p>\n

Already I have charted 15 of the 62 AAAA teams, good for 30.6. The numbers will rise again on Friday at Hamline with the Pat Paterson Event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
