ELK RIVER 60, CHAMPLIN PARK 57<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was senior night at Elk River on Wednesday night and senior Alexa Engebretson made sure it was a happy post-game celebration with a game winning 3 with 6.8 seconds left to edge out Northwest Suburban Conference rival Champlin Park. The Elks, coming off a disappointing loss at home Tuesday to Moorhead (a makeup game from the famous January 17-18 weekend), survived a resurgent Rebel team in the second half. At the break the Rebels trailed 28-17 and were mired at 54.8 pp100. CP erupted for 40 second half points. CP also had to do a double dip rally. In the first rally the Rebels pulled in front 35-34 after a triple by Maya Fitzpatrick, who tied with a team high 13 points—all in the second half. This was after CP connected on eight of their first nine possessions of the second half, an 18-7 start in the first six minutes. ER knew something was up and called time four minutes into the surge. Engebretson delivered her second of four 3s to put ER up 39-37. 3 number three gave ER a 48-43 cushion. That capped off a six straight scoring string by the Elks. The game\u2019s leading scorer senior Lydia Haack added two to the margin on a nifty cut to the left block after an ER time out at the 728 mark. With six minutes to go senior Mikayla Kanenwisher delivered a pair of free throws (52-43. \u00a0It appeared the Elks had reinstated and asserted their trajectory to victory. Not so fast. CP started their second rally with another scoring sequence. This time the amount totaled five possessions and involved twelve unanswered points. It started with an & one completion by Mikaelah Counce. It ended with CP up 55-52 after transition lay up by Nicole Lillard with 3:20 left. After an ER time out Haack knocked down a 3 to break the Elks\u2019 scoring drought and tie the game at 55. ER, who had a plus 10 advantage on the boards and a 50% offensive rebound rate scored on seconds chancers the rest of the way. Ellie Maass scored first to break the tie 57-55. CP\u2019s Amaya Doree immediately tied it with a lay up on the left side. The Elks called time with 25 seconds left. They had two cracks at scoring off the out of bounds play. The third crack at scoring came into Engebretson\u2019s hands and she delivered the dagger from the top of the key.<\/p>\n

CP was scorching in the second half at 153.8 pp100. It was the lethargic first half that put CP behind the eight ball.<\/p>\n

This was my second ER sighting. The first came on Thanksgiving Eve when they faced Apple Valley at home. ER is now 16-7 on the year. CP falls to 7-14. CP\u2019s record may be deceiving. They own wins over Eden Prairie, Maple Grove and Andover.<\/p>\n

This completes my NWS set for the year. It also knocks off section 5AAAA. I have two AAAA teams remaining. There are eight teams left to go for the top 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
