It was a rematch of the St. Paul City Championships from a week before, but this time the runners-up were champions on the state stage at Edina. #2 seed senior HaNeul Jeong-McDonell of Highland Park moved up from second place last year with a two set win over #1 seed Cinderella Nwe of Washington.\u00a0 This was HP’s second singles champion. The last was Gao Lee from 2012. The #3 seed senior pair of Julia Bowron and Emma Clift of Central got revenge twice on Thursday. First they downed #2 seed Burnsville (Ashley Briese and Corrina Benson) in a three set thriller. They trailed after one set 11-21. They took the next two 21-18 and then on to extra points 22-20. Earlier in the year the Central pair fell to the Blaze in three sets. In the title game they brought down the undefeated #1 seed from Johnson (Ashley Her \/ Birdy Xiong). Twice during the season the Governors bumped off the Central duo—once in the regular season, then last week in the city title in three sets.<\/p>\n
