Washburn scored more points overall—by two—but the Lakers still prevailed. Not only did the SW second doubles pair of Piper and Charlotte pick up the needed two point set wins, they trailed at the turn. Lily and Madeleine of Washburn led at the eleven point switch. The third set extra point win at second doubles was the only set to go longer than 21. The second doubles action also had the only two point margins. It was those narrow openings that gave the Lakers their win.

SINGLES
1. Chitra, SW def McKinley 21-12, 21-13
2. Eva, SW def Izzy 21-9, 21-15
3. The lanky Laker also controlled the net with several well placed cross court back hand drops. She also took advantage of birds left hanging with a distinct 9-1 smash advantage, several coming on net play.

You might question the first set score, as did I, but that is what I charted. That is not what was reported. Chitra broke free from a three all tie in the first set with the first run of the day capped by an ace. She followed that up on her next service with another three point run, which featured two soft drives sandwiching a three stroke smash. By that point Chitra had seven winners in her nine points. McKinley pushed back with her only run of the set to close the gap to 13-9. But her inability to hold Chitra off on her initial serve did not help her cause.

McKinley’s only lead in the match came on the first point in the second set. Then Chitra, after a back hand four stroke cross court drop, took advantage of three two stroke hitting errors on the way to a 6-1 lead. Chitra had nine points via two strokes in that set. Again McKinley closed the gap to 13-10, but a missed serve closed off that run. Chitra closed the match with a three stroke slam at the net.

Category

CHITRA

MCKINLEY

Side out

11/16–.688

6/18–.333

Longest side out string

6

2

3+ Runs

7

2

Longest point string

6

3

SERVING

Service points

27

7

Serving %

43/43-1.000

21/23-.913

Point generated off serve

.628

.304

POINTS

43

23

Points after 11

21

13

Points after own errors

10

5

STROKES

136

89

Strokes per point

3.16

3.87

5+ rallies

7

5

2- rallies

15

5

WINNERS

25

13

Aces

1

0

Blocks

0

0

Clears

2

4

Drives

5

3

Drops

6

0

Soft drives

2

5

Smashes

9

1

ERRORS

10

18

Deep

1

0

Net

8

9

Wide

1

7

Serve

0

2

Largest Lead

11

1

W:E Ratio

2.50

0.72

Margin

10.00

Set Point %

2/2-1.000

Time

14:48

[2,4
SOUTHWEST 5, WASHBURN 2 One of my objectives during the course of the season is to chart all the teams that play badminton.
