The Tigers held PSA to single digits in eight of the fourteen sets. The margins in both singles and doubles were double digits with singles slightly ahead of doubles 12.875 to 10.167. The most points Prairie Seeds scored in a set came in the first set at second doubles when Kafoua Yang and Madeline Her reached 17.

This was PSA’s second match of the year, and their first home match. They have five courts in action. The action moved rather quickly. The singles were done in about 15 minutes of action. After singles were through the doubles took over.

I have now charted 26 of the 28 schools playing badminton this year (93%). Shina erupted for 15 straight points early in the first set. She took advantage of Xiong’s birds that were left hanging in the air, juicy and creamy. And Shina creamed them. In that run of 15 she smashed six straight, all on the third stroke (after the two stroke side out). In that same string of 15 she added five more smashes. Only on point 16 did the smash count move off three—that time to five. All in all, a dozen smashes in the first set alone.

The second set score seemed similar, but there were differences. Shina got her first run on her second service, but this time it was only six straight. And the smash was not as prevalent with just two in the opening eight points. Still Shina had five smashes in the second set, the most of any of her winner categories. Xiong got her only run of the day on her third service in the second set. A couple of drops helped cut the margin to 12-8. Once Shina got the bird back, she did not let it go. She closed with the final nine points.

Neither player was able to prevent the other from scoring on serve in set two. Both players’ side out percentages were under 50%.

Again, the odd stroke winners overwhelmingly tipped to the winner. This time Shina had a +23 margin (27-4).

Category

SHINA

<td
