It was the opener for both teams. The Eagles did take third singles in three sets, the only match to go the distance on the day, and the only match where EP won sets. The Hornets had six sets with margins of ten or more with three each in singles and doubles. Four of those came in the first sets. Only one set went to extra points—and that came at fourth singles in the first set.

Edina has 74 team members and EP 60, so numbers have bounced back strongly from the virus trough. Most of those winners came on the third stroke. She had eight third stroke winners in the first set, six in the second. Smashes led the winner count for Tsephel with eight with seven clears following close behind.

Right off the bat Tsephel established her presence with the first three points of the match—the first two points coming on the third stroke. That lead was short lived as Lissick tied it up at three. That would be her only run of the match. But Lissick was unable to find the court on her next serve opening the door for a second Tsephel run. This time it was a six pointer.Lissick was able to get side outs on Tsephel’s third and fourth services, but the rest of the time the Hornet was able to initiate runs. Tsephel had four in the first set.

Lissick had her only lead of the day early in the second set at 2-1. A missed serve stopped that momentum. Lissick missed three in the second set total and was only 1/3 on her first three serves. Tsephel didn’t really clear herself from her Eagle opponent until her seventh service where she got her second run of the set. Prior to that it was 10-7. Tsephel finished strong in both sets, but in the second it was more pronounced at 10-1 with two runs on her last two services and eight winners capped by a three stroke clear.

Category

TSEPHEL

<td
