This is state tournament week. Monday (tomorrow) six contests will be played to advance to one of four sites on Tuesday. The Tuesday action hosts include Edina, Como Park, Washington, and Johnson. The field of 16 will dwindle to four after that and the final four will head to Edina for the semis and championship (and third place) games.<\/p>\n
Action on the individual side is a one day only affair and the anticipated start time will between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m at Edina. There will be 96 contests that day with singles and doubles crowned. The finals could begin as early as 8:45 but could start any time after 9 pm. The winners of these tournaments will have to endure five matches to wear the crown. Many of these matches will go three sets and the points will be fought after ferociously. I recommend that all players should prepare for that grueling challenge with proper diet, sleep, hydration days (if not weeks) prior to Thursday, May 16. Fatigue will be a factor. Those in shape will endure.<\/p>\n
There is no cost to attend the events. The fans and teammates will be asked to stay on the upper deck in the early rounds to avoid walking on courts that are live. That was an issue last year and we want no inadvertent interference in the action. New this year will be the scoreboard with the number on the board indicating which match will be up next. Edina has 13 courts, so the first number on the board will be 14. Think of you deli, or bakery as next up.<\/p>\n
