There were 25 teams in action on Friday.<\/p>\n

*Shania Nichols, Kennesaw State, St. Paul Como Park 20-W<\/p>\n

*Madison Mathiowetz, South Dakota State, Sleepy Eye St. Mary\u2019s 19-W<\/p>\n

Totals: 109 points, 4-1<\/p>\n

There are now 57 players on the D1 High Five list with Nichols the latest to join. Frost & Mathiowetz both set new highs for themselves. Agara is now in the sole lead with the most High Five listings with seven.<\/p>\n

Three were AAAA players with one each from AAA and A. All made the state tournament in their career. The Hopkins duo won state titles.<\/p>\n

D2<\/strong><\/p>\n

There were twelve teams in action on Friday.<\/p>\n

ABOUT LAST NIGHT\u2026.A Trio of Early Games from WBL<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

I spent the early part of Black Friday at White Bear Lake watching the first three games of the Thanksgiving Tip Off. The trio of games was close, if not artistic. All three games saw teams trail and win, with Osseo and Roseville both getting the Ws in the second half. Anoka turned action around in the first half and then hung on against Mahtomedi. No school made the Centurian list (100 pp100). Roseville topped the six with 85.9 and that final game against Totino-Grace was the best, as far as pp100s for losing teams go. The Eagles had the second best pp100 of any team yesterday, 0.5 better than Anoka, the winner in game two.<\/p>\n

Game one featured the lowest pp100 of any game. Both teams played with spirited action. Visitation led 29-23 early in the second half. The Orioles used a 7-0 run to take their first lead in the second half 30-29. Bomer connected from behind the arc for the lead. Viz had a resurgence and went back up 37-32 after a put back by Eve O\u2019Brien, the fourth crack at scoring in that Blazer possession. Ten minutes remained. Viz still led 44-40 after a 3 by Kiersti Jeorger with 2:20 left. That would be their final score as they failed to convert on their four possessions. Osseo scored their next three chances after that and grabbed the lead on two free throws by Sportel with 41.6 ticks left. That capped a three-point possession in which the Orioles scored one free throw earlier in the possession, grabbing the missed second shot, with Sportel fouled to cap the score.<\/p>\n

Game two had a team I had past association with: Mahtomedi. The players I coached three years ago are now juniors. They took on Anoka, a team that made it to the state tournament last year out of 7AAAA. The Zephyrs had the early advantage with their biggest lead coming at 14-6 with about 10:30 remaining in the first half. Anoka finished the half with a 20-6 kick to make it 26-20. Mahtomedi did not score their last eight possessions or translated the last 4:25 of the half. Tack on the first three possessions of the second half and the Zs were staring at a 29-22 deficit. They crept back into the action with the next five points to make it 29-27. Anoka responded with the five straight scores on the next five possessions and were back in comfort range at 35-27. It was soon a 50-34 lead for the Tornadoes. A 6-0 burst forced Anoka to call time and that was the closest Mahtomedi was to get.<\/p>\n

The final game between Roseville and Totino-Grace was the best game not only for pp100s, but also for drama. Roseville led 32-23 after the first possession of the second half and soon stretched it out to 37-25 for their widest second half lead. In the space of five TG possessions Sophia Person scored eight of ten Eagle points, opening and closing with a triple to make it 37-35. Person had a dozen points for the game. Roseville stretched their lead back out to 44-37. TG\u2019s Maria Radabaugh hit back-to-back 3s to cut the gap to 46-43. The Raiders once again pushed the margin up to 58-52. Ava Litecky tied it at 58 with a 3 and on the next TG possession Ella Emslander delivered another 3 for their first lead in the second half 61-58 with about 3:25 left to play. TG would only score one more time in their next seven possessions. It seemed lead changes only could come via the 3 and Maddie Sundberg for Roseville kept the tradition alive with what proved to be the game winner with about 1:45 left. It came on a second chance in that possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In the four factor category winners ruled the boards with Osseo snagging 62-53 total, Anoka 55-37, and Roseville 49-36. Mahtomedi actually valued the ball the best with only 1 turnover every 35.2 touches, a whopping 11 touches better than the next closest score. Osseo was the most careless with 13.0 touches per turnover, but the Zephyrs lost and the Orioles won. (Do turnovers matter?) The free throw category saw Anoka go to the stripe the most with 26 attempts. Osseo won their game despite Visitation doubling up the Oriole free throw attempts. Roseville scored the most 2s with 18, while Visitation attempted the most with 60. The Blazers did NOT live up to their name with the shooting ice cold at .183. Anoka had the best percentage from 2s with a .464. TG led the scoring behind the arc with ten. They also tied in most attempts with Osseo with 29. TG won the 3-percentage battle at .345.<\/p>\n

There were five 31 Club members on Friday with TG\u2019s Maria Radabaugh going up one level to the 41 Club with a 43. Only two players were able to get over 100 pp100. Only one winning player made the list & she was golden (over 100 pp100): Deborah Ayeni of Anoka. Osseo and Roseville both won without a 31 Club member, but both were close with 29 and a pair of 30s in Roseville\u2019s case.<\/p>\n
