AA was next with two and AAA with one.

McGill, Olson, McKinney and Kneepkens (virus asterisk) were state champs (or finalist virus).

D2

Only one school busy on Sunday.

But that school did not have any Minnesota scorers.

D3

No action on Sunday.

FREE THROWS BETTER OR WORSE?

Going back through the records the free throw percentage ten years ago in the 2015 season was 63.55% with 4091/6438. As of the first 18 games I have charted this year, the ft percentage has dropped to 61.93% (405/654). Hillcrest Lutheran has had the best time at the line, but they were there also the fewest times at 6/7 or 85.71%. Wayzata has had the lowest total at 10/23 or 43.48%. Benilde-St. Margaret’s had taken the most trips at 32 with Becker and Delano right behind at 31. Delano has converted the most at 22 with BSM next at 20.

So we can say that free throw shooting skills have declined in the past ten years—-slightly.

But what about class? Is the biggest class also the most skilled at the line? Keep in mind the sample sizes are small in the smaller classes with only three in AA and four in A.

AA: 69.44% (50/72)

AAA: 62.28% (104/167)

AAAA: 60.56% (218/360)

A: 60.00% (33/55)

What about conferences? I am only examining conferences with four or more chartings:

In all cases below the baseline established in 2015.

Northwest Suburban: 61.39% (62/101)

South Suburban: 61.29% (38/62)

Metro West: 61.04% (47/77)

Lake: 60.32% (76/126)

The Lake, theoretically the “best” conference, has NOT been great at the line. They are under water in fourth place out of the four conferences. The NW Suburban has a slight advantage over the South Suburban.

Again all this is early. We have only dipped our toes into one week of December. There are a good solid ten weeks of regular season action to go. There is a strong possibility that these numbers will jump with more reps in the upcoming weeks. But right now there is plenty of concentration that needs to improve these lackluster numbers. I know we are not talking about a huge drop, but a drop is drop. Free throw shooting kills are not improving the way all the time and money would promise.

DAY AHEAD

only one ranked team in action…from what I found

#7A Braham hosts Holdingford

[10,7,16
D1 HIGH FIVE There were 14 games played on Sunday. *Olivia Olson, Michigan, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 24-W *Tessa Johnson, South Carolina, St. Michael-Albertville 20-W *Tori McKinney, Minnesota, Minnetonka 20-W *Amaya Battle, Minnesota, Hopkins 18-W *Gianna Kneepkens, UCLA, Duluth Marshall 12-W Totals: 94 points, 5-0 Johnson set a new personal best.
