Both received votes in the latest Coaches Poll. One survived. The visiting Raptors handed the host Rangers their first loss of the season and knocked them out of the #1 spot in the QRF poll. FL now resides at #5 while ER moved up to #12 overall in that poll. ER built up a xxx point lead on the back of Oklahoma bound Vienna Murray and her 29 points, but, in this foul-fest of a contest, she departed for the pine with xxxx minutes left. FL took advantage of that absence, but their wasn’t enough time left to turn the tide.

The Rangers wasted no time at the start scoring on their first three possessions for a 6-0 lead. ER had their first string starting (four possessions) starting on possession 12 and they enjoyed a 15-12 advantage at that stage. Some trends were becoming evident this early. ER went to the line twice in that sequence. There were a combined 63 free throw attempts for this game. Both trips in this sequence were of the &1 variety. Murray was already making a statement with five of those Raptor points in the 9-4 burst. ER also never trailed after that. FL did tie it at 27 after a string of three possessions (all five points scored at the free throw line). ER responded directly after with a string of five with no response from FL. That opened up a ten point Raptor lead with 1:50 left in the half. FL did not score the last 3:31 of the half, or their last eight possessions. At the break the visitors led 39-27.

Both teams improved offensively in the second half. ER was at a 100 clip in the first half with FL only at 69.2. In the second half those scores were 105.7 for ER, and an even better 111.1 for the Rangers. Both teams had simultaneous scoring runs with each side scoring together seven straight times. FL managed to cut two points off their deficit 46-36. Soon thereafter both teams had overlapping runs with ER actually adding the two points back 54-42 with 12:10 left. ER had their sixth and final string that pushed their advantage out to 64-42 with nine to go. Again the free throw line was essential in that build up. FL woke up from their slumber and outscored ER 25-12 the last nine minutes. Part of that surge was due to foul number five on Murray with a still workable 6:12 left. ER led 66-48 still.

Team

Pt

PP100

OR/DR

FTA/m

2A/M

3A/M

TO/TOTO

East Ridge

76

102.7

14/23

23/31

22/42

3/7

24/12.50

Forest Lake

67

89.3

22/18

21/32

17/38

4/22

22/17.36

Vienna Murray ended up in the 41 Club despite the early exit with a 42. That meant her value added was 13. Senior Aubree Hultman was the 31 Club member for FL with a 34 with 17 points, 14 of which came in the last nine minutes including a buzzer beater 3. Her value added was 17.

Will this be the year ER breaks through to the state tournament? They have been close before and should be a number one seed in section 4AAAA. Forest Lake will be battling the Anoka County schools for the top spot in section 7AAAA.
