Caledonia mounted a furious comeback two times in the second half. In the first they trailed 44-37 with about 9:30 left. The Warriors cut that margin to 46-45 after a 3 by the game’s leading scorer Aubrie Klug (25 points) with 6:30 remaining. With 3:36 left, the RedHawks once again pushed their lead to seven at 52-45. Caledonia had one last push in them and regained the lead at 54-53 after Peyton Felten hit a shot from the left elbow. On the next MA possession Danasia Anderson scored on a drive along the left baseline with 40.5 seconds left. That was plenty of time for Caledonia and they milked the clock, took two timeouts, one at 29.2 and the last at 6.2 seconds left (3 on the shot clock). But on the inbounds pass Allison Harris made the steal. Harris, a 6-1 freshman post, with strong shoulders, didn’t play, or was even rostered in the Park Center game last Monday. The ball was thrown in from the right baseline near the free alley to a spot deep above the break on the right side 3 area.

PP100s were sluggish throughout showcasing the physical nature of the defense. (Minnehaha 80.0; Caledonia in the first half 70.6). The early difference in the game? Minnehaha was 6/10 on 3s in the first half good for 18 of their 28 points (64.29%). The Warriors were only 1/9 or only 3 of their 24 (12.50%). In the second half those numbers flipped. Caledonia was 5/9 which helped in their comebacks, and MA was 2/8. Perhaps it was the baskets?

Caledonia turned it over every 22 touches in the first half despite the relentless RedHawk pressure and physicality. Minnehaha, facing pressure too, was turning it over every 10.88 touches. But the heat rose higher in the second half with Caledonia falling to one turnover every 8.53 touches. MA improved slightly to one for every 14.3 touches , but still below what I consider the gold standard of 30 touches. Perhaps the floor is sloped?

One thing Minnehaha will need to address is their almost freezing free throw percentage numbers (33.33%). They missed a whopping 14 for the game. This is the second charting for MA in two weeks, and, by a weird coincidence, they had the exact same pp100 in each game—75.3.

Team

Pt

PP100

OR/DR

FTM/a

2M/A

3M/A

TO/TOTO

Minnehaha

55

75.3

14/23

7/21

12/32

8/18

26/12.19

Caledonia

54

75.0

17/22

6/10

15/40

6/18

26/12.15

Aubrie Klug made the 31 Club for the Warriors with a 37. She had 25 points with four 3s. Her pp100s were 83.3. She had 30 possessions or 41.67% of the Caledonia total.

No one made it for MA. Danasia Anderson was closest with a 29, but I am sure the game winning lay up will salve that miss. Anderson was also the best pp100 performer of the night with a 133.3 (with more than two possessions). She ended up with a dozen points.

DAY AHEAD

Family time—for the next two days.
