ABOUT LAST NIGHT\u2026.PROVIDENCE V ROCHESTER LOURDES<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

#1AA Providence left no doubt early in a battle of top five AA teams Saturday afternoon in a 99-58 thrashing at the home of the Lions den. It was a rough week for Lourdes. The Eagles lost three straight\u2026all to quality teams, but Red Wing and Goodhue are section 1AA rivals and that will impact seeding. Providence came out with guns blazing in the first half. The Lions roared with six straight scoring possessions building a 14-2 lead. The Eagles called time after one minute and twenty seconds had elapsed then looking at an 11-0 deficit. Maddyn Greenway scored off the tip, then added two steals and lay ups in that mix. Another factor in the Providence run was the long ball. The hosts scored a dozen in the first half alone (they would notch 14 for the game). By break Providence had enough in the bank for victory leading 66-32. Running time was inevitable.<\/p>\n

One thing that stands out watching Providence is the speed at which the ball moves. They are not playing at 33 or 45. They are playing at 78 (for those with vinyl memories). We can rename this group the Lightning Lions because several players touch the ball in the space of three seconds compared to the standard high school (and apparently sluggish) touch rate where a player holds the ball to long. Providence was 11\/13 on transition yesterday\u2026zip-zip-zip lay up. Too often I have to watch players use a bounce to make a decision. Just counting bounces Lourdes \u201cwon\u201d (if that is the right word) 812-581. A stat I absolutely hate is the mega dribble stat and Lourdes won that 19-2 with one of the Providence megas coming after the starters were sitting down. If you have to bounce the ball ten times it means the offense is stagnant and\/or the players are spectators, or the bouncer has no idea what or who is open. Providence starters were sizzling for the day at 143.3 pp100 scoring every 2.64 touches. Lourdes totals were 87.5 pp100 with 4.68 touches per point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Providence law firm of Greenway, Greenway and Millerbernd, the power troika, all made the 31 Club. Senior Maddyn made the 61 Club and is the second player this week to get her kicks with 66. Mya Moore of Orono also reached the same mark in the win over Benilde-St. Margaret\u2019s on Tuesday. All three of the Lions also had lofty scores in the pp100 category with Maddyn again reaching the heights at 175. She and Millerbernd were both under 2 touches per point for the day (1.90 and 1.96). Millerbernd hit for six 3s, Maddyn five. Both Greenway sisters tallied nine distributions with Maddyn getting 15 d stops. So value added (subtract the points off the 31 Club score) means she had a value added of 24.<\/p>\n

On the Lourdes side of the equation no one made the 31 Club, but three were in the upper 20s. Eighth grader Amelia Truty scored 24 points, but her value added was only three stalling out her quest for the 31 Club at 27. She did connect on four 3s for the day. Truty was the only Eagle over 100 pp100 with a 141.2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Orono overthrows Benilde-St. Margaret\u2019s in 6AAA and therefore is the new #1 in AAA. Three changes in AA in sections 1, 6, and 8. Not one iota changes in A.<\/p>\n
