Lilly Henriksen of BOLD scored her 1000 point in the win over Melrose. She had 21.<\/p>\n

Lauryn Ankeny of Minnewaska scored her 1000 point in the win over West Central. She had 12.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Bailey Mortenson of Yellow Medicine East scored her 1000 point in the win over TMB. She had 25.<\/p>\n

ABOUT LAST NIGHT\u2026.HOPKINS V MINNETONKA<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

I finally got out this week and went to the Lake Conference for a potential match up in the state semis. Two years ago this was a state final. But that might be problematic. Right now Minnetonka probably is the #1 seed in section two; but they are suffering from some significant injuries. Hopkins is looking at the #2 seed in section 6 but that could change with next week\u2019s contest with current #1 Wayzata. At any rate the contest last night had offense, with a heavy emphasis on free throws. It also showed that despite the big lead with Hopkins, the Skippers scrapped back. Fouls again kept the game perhaps closer than it should be.<\/p>\n

Clearly the loss of 6-2 Jazmin Daing and 6-2 Le\u2019Sedra Williams impacted the Skippers rebounding totals. The Royals owned the glass 38-23. Even more important was Hopkins offensive rebound rate of 53.12%. Minnetonka came in at 27.58%. Both teams cashed in at the line at a great clip and Minnetonka was better at 2s hitting for 60.6%. Not that Hopkins was shabby at 55.3%. Do not believe there was therefore no defense. This was a physical contest and shots were contested. The quality of the game, and the skill of the performers can be noted by the pp100 with Minnetonka losing out despite a 101.4 pp100. Hopkins came in at 112.3 but their starters were even more proficient at 127.3. Another facet for Hopkins was their bench which outscored the Skippers 12-0.<\/p>\n

The game started off tight with the visitors scoring a lay up off the jump ball by Lanelle Wright. Hopkins broke free from a one possession game (25-23) with 16-4 burst capped by seven straight scoring possessions down to about the 1:40 mark in the first half. The Skippers tried to slow the momentum with a time out at 3:17 but the Hopkins Express kept rolling for three more possessions to make it 41-27. From that point on it was catch up mode for Minnetonka. At half the hosts led 45-30.<\/p>\n

Fouls started to pile up for Hopkins in the first minute (two) and the tone was set for the rest of the game. Minnetonka made all 13 free throws attempted in the second half, they only made four in the first half. The visitors narrowed the gap to 49-40 with a 10-4 start after three minutes. Hopkins regained their mojo and pushed their lead to 72-53 (a 23-13 stretch) with 6:21 remaining. The pendulum once again swung back to Minnetonka to close the night. The Skippers finished with a 22-10 kick including stretches of four and three scoring possessions (eight total possessions). But the clock worked in Hopkins\u2019 favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

As for the 31 Club each team provided one member. Hopkins junior Erma Walker was up one level to the 41 Club. She dominated inside going 12\/17 from the floor and was physically imposing. She also went to the line 14 times hitting ten. She also kept away from fouls that were unnecessary. Not everyone at Hopkins has learned that lesson yet.<\/p>\n

Senior Lanelle Wright made the 31 Club right on the nose with 31. She had a productive second half. She skyrocketed her pp100 to 214.3 pp100 in the second half with 15 point and a perfect 9\/9 at the line. She helped push the Minnetonka second half pp100 up to 118.4, above the 97.4 pp100 for the host Royals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
