The Tigers roared and pounced on the Wildcats in that half to the tune of .. On January 8 this year Eagan, then at home, beat Farmington 55-46, so Friday night was also a revenge win for the hosts.

I made my way to this game to get two more South Suburban teams checklisted. I still am short two teams, and I doubt if Burnsville or Apple Valley will get any treatment this year. Farmington was #45 in the latest QRF poll, and Eagan not far behind at #66. Farmington is now 5-9 in the SSC (7th) and Eagan 3-11 (8th). Respectively in non-con games Farmington is 4-4 and Eagan 5-5.

Eagan enjoyed the first portion of the first half building a solid 24-17 lead with freshman Wynne Birk leading the charge. She had half of the points for the Wildcats at that stage. Eagan also was able to connect four times from behind the arc. The last 26 minutes of the game they were only to hit on two. That was the high water mark for Eagan. Then Farmington mounted a 17-8 finish to the half to claim a 34-32 lead at the break.

Eagan had one more lead in the second half at 37-36 after an & one by Kathryn Simonsen. Farmington took the lead for good on a drive by Ashley Harrison (41-39). That ignited a 17-1 run which turned a competitive game into one of comfort for Farmington (56-40). The Tigers had two stretches of three and four straight scoring possessions in that burst. Eagan closed the gap somewhat to 60-50, but Farmington pressed the accelerator once again and stretched their lead to 20.

Farmington had a huge advantage on the glass. The Tigers offensive rebound rate was 52.6%. Eagan’s 35.7%. Eagan’s defense didn’t seem to bother Farmington with only 11 turnovers and a 28.45 touch per turnover rate. But Eagan’s offensive production dropped from 97 in the first half to 75 in the second half. It was even steeper for the starters going from 112.5 to 78.3. By contrast, Farmington got stronger offensively as the night wore on. They went from 103 pp100 in the first half to 118.8 in the second half. Consistency was maintained throughout.

So will any of these teams play deep in postseason? Chances are it will be Farmington v Owatonna in the quarterfinals of 1AAAA (#4 v #5). Where? That will be determined later. Eagan oddly enough, is in a better situation. They are currently the #3 seed in 3AAAA. Their first round opponent could be Park-Cottage Grove.

Team

Pt

PP100

OR/DR

FTM/a

2M/A

3M/A

TO/TpTO

LEAD

Farmington

72

110.8

20/18

20/24

17/41

6/19

11/28.45

20

Eagan

56

86.2

10/18

16/21

11/23

6/19

22/18.86

7

There was only one player that reached the vaunted 31 Club and that was senior captain and point guard Ashley Harrison. She had a 36 score and led both teams with 9 d stops and 7 distributions. She ended up with a team high 20 points. What grabbed attention was a floor % of .727. The only flaw was at the free throw line going 1/3.

The second half proved fatal for Eagan’s Wynne Birk. At half she was on the way to the 31 Club with 23 already in the bank and a 188.9 pp100. But on the first play of the second half when on defense she had to be removed from the game after having the wind knocked out. She returned about two possessions later but Farmington made sure her space was constricted. She had 17 points at the break, only five more the rest of the game. She led all scorers with 22.

Player

School

31Club

PP100

Ashley Harrison

Farmington

36

181.8

DAY AHEAD

There are six ranked teams playing on Valentine’s Day.

AAA

#3 Benilde-St. Margaret’s faces Bismarck Century at Moorhead

#4 Marshall hosts Tri-City United

#5 Hill-Murray hosts Roseville

AA

#1 Providence travels to Proctor

#6 New London-Spicer travels to Minnewaska

#9 Fairmont travels to Jackson County Central

[10,138,7,153
#2 Wayzata 52, Elk River 39 #4 Roseville 60, St. Francis 41 #8 Forest Lake 59, Coon Rapids 31 #12 Eden Prairie 51, Bloomington Jefferson 37 #14 Chaska 58, Shakopee 55 #17 Armstrong 61, White Bear Lake 43 #19 Burnsville 50, Edina 46 #20 Minnetonka 50, Lakeville South 48
#1 Hopkins 81, #13 Minnetonka 55 Friday's prep sports roundup: Hopkins girls' basketball routs Minnetonka----StarTribune #3 Wayzata 44, #14 Edina 40 #6 Cretin-Derham Hall 67, #16 Roseville 45 #10 White Bear Lake 61, East Ridge 45 #18 Anoka 65, #17 St. Francis 64 #19 Forest Lake 69, Stillwater 57 Fridley 75,…
FRIDAY #1 Hopkins 77, #3 Farmington 52 #2 Wayzata 86, Prior Lake 44 #5 Stillwater 97, Woodbury 69 #6 St. Michael-Albertville 63, #8 Elk River 48 #9 Centennial 64, Armstrong 37 #11 Maple Grove 46, Moorhead 40 #12 Rosemount 60, Henry Sibley 36 #14 Chaska 73, #16 Edina 50 #15…
D1 HIGH FIVE There were 18 teams playing on Sunday. *Avery Koenen, North Dakota State, Montevideo 29-W *Olivia Olson, Michigan, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 23-W *Nunu Agara, Stanford, Hopkins 21-L *Mara Braun, Minnesota, Wayzata 20-W *Amaya Battle, Minnesota, Hopkins 17-W Totals: 110 points, 4-1 Three of the players were AAAA based…make that…
#1 Eastview 68, #4 Lakeville North 59 #2 Wayzata 65, #13 Minnetonka 47 #3 Hopkins 92, Bemidji 44 #5 St. Michael-Albertville 61, Buffalo 41 #7 Centennial 71, #6 Champlin Park 52 Centennial dismantles Champlin Park to secure tie atop the Northwest Suburban North Division-----StarTribune #8 Cretin-Derham Hall 60, #15 Park-Cottage Grove…
Friday, January 23, 2026 Reports: High Five;
