This was the first time CSoE took to the courts and it was the first time ERA had a sweep victory. What was unique in this matchup was the Gryphons point totals were exact mirrors 84-28 total in both singles sets, 63-20 in both doubles. All 14 sets today were decided by over 10 points. The Mighty Ones (that is the mascot for CSoE—symbol an elephant). In fact the Mighty Ones top set score was ten and both first and second singles achieved that mark in one set.

Both programs are fairly new, and both have about five to six matches scheduled for the season. This was Harini’s first time this season at the top spot. In the previous match with Minnetonka, she was slotted at second singles. This was Serena’s first time on the court. A couple of interesting facts in this match: the stroke count was not that far apart, but Harini had a lower stroke per point by almost half. Serena actually won the longer rallies (five strokes or more) 11-10. But Harini dominated the “fast” rallies of two strokes or less 15-1. Winners were overwhelmingly in Harini’s favor 31-8. She had two categories in the winner department that outperformed Serena’s total winners: Smashes for 10, drives for 9. The bird was up in the right shoulder quadrant more often for Harini and she pounced for the most part when given that chance. She had five straight points on smashes in the first set moving from a tight 7-6 lead to a more comfortable 12-6 advantage. Serena was shut out on the smash. That smash sequence created the separation in the first set. Harini closed out the last seven points for that win. She then opened the second with the first eight points—all on winners. The difference in the second set was Harini earned 18 points on winners compared to the 13 in the first set. Serena only had one error when the bird was in play, along with two missed serves in that second set.

Category

<td
