5 GAMES FROM THE HAMLINE EVENT<\/p>\n

With so many games, and late nights and early mornings, here is the thumbnails.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota basketball season got underway Friday with the traditional Hamline Pat Patterson event. There were five games this season these take aways:<\/p>\n

–As was typical of early season games, the pp100s reflected nine days of practice. Only two teams cracked the century mark. Only three were above 80. By contrast three were below 70.<\/p>\n

–The 31 Club inducted seven members today. Stillwater had two.<\/p>\n

–That brings up an ex-North St. Paul Polar thread. Alexis Pratt is now at Stillwater (and a 31 Club member). Her former coach Ashlie Anzel moved west to Mounds View and had a successful debut freezing the Minneapolis North Polars.<\/p>\n

–AAA defending champ Orono lost out of the gate. The Spartans have plenty of shoes to fill. Orono led 21-10 in the first half, but Cougar pressure led to 21 steals (on 30 turnovers). By half Como was in front 41-35 once they figured out how to cash in from 3s.<\/p>\n

–The two players to join the 41 Club (Karlen, Loder) did not win, and had their personal pp100s under 100.<\/p>\n

—Kennedy came back from a 10 point half time deficit. For 16:40 of the second half Central only scored 3 points.<\/p>\n

—The narrowest margin was Stillwater\u2019s four point win over New Prague, spoiling the debut of Luke Swedberg, the first new Trojan coach in 46 years.<\/p>\n

—with 10 minutes left in the final game of the night it was tied at 35. Lightning struck with a 26-9 final kick.<\/p>\n

–The Suburban East was 2-1 on the day; City teams were 1-2.<\/p>\n
