By the way the side streets in St. Paul have yet to be plowed as I discovered. The Governors were pushed at the even singles going three sets each. In both cases the Knights took set two. The only set to go extra points came in the second set at first doubles. Yang has only lost one set this year. This was her third win over Miko this year. The previous two came in the Edina Invitational exactly a month ago. Key in the win was Yang’s side out ability. Miko only had four services where she scored off serve. Yang’s side out percentage was 78%. One interesting point in this match, of Yang’s ten errors, six came on serve. On the winner’s side of the equation Yang had a balanced attack with four categories at four or five. Both players found success with clears with Yang getting five and Miko 4.

The first set was back and forth. Miko was the first to put together a run grabbing her first lead at 8-7. Nine straight side outs later the set was knotted at 13. That run opened with a missed Yang serve. Yang put together a four point run and then finished off Miko with another run of four. Yang utilized four drops in this set for winners. She didn’t add to that total in the second.

To start the second set Yang ran off the first three points including a three stroke clear. That was a run of seven across two sets. The key run of the set came with seven unanswered points pushing Yang’s lead to nine (13-4). The steepest the lead got came with a dozen points (19-7). Miko got her only run of the set, but the whole was too steep to climb out.

Category

<td
