The format was two sets exclusively with three teams. Both Red and Blue finished 3-1, but, by virtue of the margins, it was Red the “champion” of the event +9 ahead of the Blues. The Whites finished without a win. If you look at the point earned category the pattern held with Red topping out at 77. The rallies, at least at the beginning of the evening, were longer than some of the efforts in the past. The

Most of the 2018 class has already shipped off to college, so of the xxx D1 players only four were listed. One, Ella Ratzloff of East Ridge did not play due to illness. Correspondingly there were only four AAA players listed (three in the house). Class A had the most participants with 13 followed by 10 for the AA division.

MATCH 1: RED 1, BLUE 1 (25-19, 26-28)

Red created separation from the Blues when Sydney Schwitters stepped to the service line and added four more points for a 17-11 lead. It also forced the first Blue time out. That worked out for Blue who rattled off a run of four of their own to narrow the gap to 17-15. Syd Lanoue, who would wind up as the Fogelberg winner (MVP of the game) led the way with seven kills in the set. Set two was the only one that went to extra points. The Reds had one match point at 24-23, but couldn’t finish. The Blues’ Linsey Rachel was the force behind the victory. She delivered three kills in the last four points for the Blues. Amber Klug capped the split with a block for the final point. Lanoue repeated her performance for the Reds with seven kills.

MATCH 2: BLUE 2, WHITE 0 (25-21, 25-19)

White appeared to have some momentum with a 20-18 lead in the first set, but that vanished behind the arm of Rachel Houle who had a night high of ten kills in the set, four of which came in their last seven points for Blue. Two straight White time outs trailing at 22-21 and 23-21 couldn’t pull them out of their tailspin. The Blues took control of the second set with a four point run to go up 13-10. White saw enough to call their first time out. But the side out game faltered for White with the Blues able to squeeze out at least a point out of six of their last seven servers. Blue sided out three straight times down the stretch to preserve the win. All four of the Blues’ aces on the night happened in the last set. The Blues were balanced with no one player scoring more than three points in the set.

MATCH 3: RED 2, WHITE 0 (25-20, 25-15)

The Reds used three White hitting errors to string together five points in the first set and grab a 12-8 lead. The Whites scrapped back into it tying the game at 18. The home stretch belonged to the Reds who scored the last four points despite a White time out at 23. Lanoue, as had been the pattern, rang up seven kills. The kick down the stretch came from Lexi Ferrell who had two of the kills including the side out kill to take a 22-20 lead and then the coup de grace for point 25. The Reds had five runs in the last set as the Whites ran out of gas. The Whites managed to get a couple of runs, but after trailing 14-11 they only got one more point off serve. The Red avalanche of six points, the longest of the night, put the them up at 23-13. Lanoue again lived up to her seven kill totals. Ferrell was busy in that last run with a kill sandwiched around two blocks.

COMBINED BOX

REDS

ROT

<td
