With the win Washington has sole possession of second place. Harding prevented the sweep at first singles but needed three sets. Washington won two of the three 3 set matches, both coming in the top two doubles slots. The Washington second doubles pair of Karia & Snow White won their third set by the slim margin of two after losing the second set by double digits. There were two sets in this contest that went extra points, both going to Washington players. Xee Her at third doubles closed out the win at 23-21 in the second set. Washington’s first doubles pair of Nyo Nyo Sein & Chloe Yang eeked out a second set 24-22 win after losing the first set.

There are now three teams yet to be charted: Eden Prairie, Edison & Hiawatha.

SINGLES
1. Htoo spotted Say a 6-0 lead in the opening set and was down by double digits at 13-3. But a pattern emerged and grew as the match went on. Htoo gained strength as the sets wore on, while Say faded. For the night Htoo won the late points by almost double 38-20. Even in set one Htoo closed the gap. After point 11 in that first set Say won 10-7. Another trend in this contest was the winner total. Htoo did not come up with any winner in the first set. Say won the winner total for the match 37-15, but she also gave Htoo ammunition with 37 errors. Htoo’s winner to error ratio was under 1. In fact Say out pointed Htoo by one.

Set two was the one that got away. Say led 14-8. A three stroke soft drive went wide and that opened the door for Htoo. That ignited a four point run (14-12). Say halted that run with a three stoke drive. Htoo got her second straight side out on a six stroke clear, again starting a four stroke run. That put her in front for the first time since 1-0 (16-15). The advantage shifted back to Say with three of the next four points (18-17). The last four points all were courtesy errors all early in the stroke count. Part of the reason for the Htoo surge was the emphasis on the short serve. That kept Say off balance as Htoo moved her more over the court.

Set three saw Say up 11-6 when there was a mandated switching of courts. The rest of the way Say only came up with three points. A key point came on an ace by Htoo tying the set at 12. This was in the middle of a nine point run, the largest run of the day.

Category

<td
