Edison was off the day before due to an emergency. The visiting Tommies were able to get their win at second singles. That match and third doubles went three sets. The most competitive match of the day came at second doubles with the differential between Suad & Samara and Ann & Kade only five points. Rising in the ranks is Kyla from Roosevelt. Last week against Southwest she was first singles. She has jumped to third singles on varsity and had the biggest margins of any player.

I am now down to one school left: Hiawatha. Alice had a “smashing” day as she blanked Maiya 13-12. The second set should be 22-12. For some reason both players got off count and it should be 23-12 in the final frame. Alice had 17 smashes and that total was six more than the Maiya winners. The Smash pattern for Alice went like this: Serve deep, Maiya would try to clear and Alice was ready to pounce at the net. Of Alice’s 17 smashes, nine came on stroke 3. The match wasn’t always pointed to Alice. Maiya started off the match with the first three points and led 6-2 before the birds hung out there ready to be crushed by Alice. She rang off six straight to take an 8-6 lead and then added seven more on her fifth service of the first set to build a 15-8 margin. In set two it was Alice that grabbed the initiative with the first three points. Maiya closed the gap to 10-7, but Alice was able to score on all but one of her services in the second set while Maiya was shut out half the time.

<td
