The Eagles dominated the singles with an average margin of 12.38 points per set. The Eagles had six of the eight sets where they had a margin of ten or more points. The only match that escaped the Eagles talons came at first singles where the Hornet pair of Lindsay Lundberg and Shay Regar won in two. That was also the closest match of the day with a differential of 11 points. It was also one of the only matches where a set was decided by three or less points, in this case set two. The other tight set came in the first set at third doubles.

SINGLES
1. BeBe Say, W def Angel Liang 21-16, 21-12
2. Say more than doubled the winner totals of Liang with more points on the soft drives (11) than Liang had total (10). Say was able to convert on her serve more often and prevented her younger opponent from generating any traction with runs.

Oddly enough Liang was the first with a run (leading 4-2 in the first set) but was only able to get one more and that came in set two. Say answered Liang’s first run right away with three points of her own followed by another three on her fourth service of the first set (8-5). Liang had her last lead in the first set at 12-11. A missed short serve that went wide ended that sequence. Say broke a 13 tie with her third run of the first set (16-13). Liang clawed her way back into the match trailing 17-16 after a pair of Say hitting errors. The host finished the first set with the last four points capped by a three stroke drive on point 21.

After a missed serve to start the second set, Say ran off five straight, the highlight coming on the fourth point which lasted 11 strokes and ended on a soft drive. Say tallied nine soft drives in this set, six coming on the third stroke after a deep serve followed by a clear. The set was still competitive at 14-11, but Say ripped six straight points (three on the soft drives just described). After a side out Say finished with a soft drive again, but on the second stroke.

Category

SAY

LIANG

Side out

10/18-.556

7/18-.389

Longest side out string

4

2

3+ Runs

7

2

Longest point string

6

4

SERVING

Service points

24

11

Serving %

.976

.966

Point generated off serve

.585

.379

POINTS

Overall points

42

28

Points after 11

20

10

Points after own errors

11

6

STROKES

Strokes

160

103

Strokes per point

3.810

3.679

5+ rallies

11

8

2- rallies

11

8

WINNERS

23

10

Aces

0

0

Blocks

0

0

Clears

4

4

Drives

2

1

Drops

4

1

Soft drives

11

2

Smashes

2

2

ERRORS

18

19

Deep

1

4

Net

10

6

Wide

6

8

Serve

1

1

W:E Ratio

1.278

0.526

Margin

7.00

Set Point %

2/3-.667

Time

14:47.73

WASHINGTON 6, EDINA 1 #2 Washington stopped Edina 6-1 at home on Tuesday.
