Only one match went the distance—at fourth singles. Natasha Schonewill picked up the only set win for the Blaze and that came in the second set. The Governors dominated the doubles portion of the event with an average margin of 11.67 points. The biggest event margin came at third doubles where Pacee Xiong and Song won their sets by an average of 13.5 points.

Johnson hopes to celebrate again two weeks from now at Burnsville with a team state title.

SINGLES
1. During a stretch in the second set Chah had nine straight side outs. Chah limited her errors to ten on the day, which gave her a 2.2 winner to error ratio. Chah worked the back line with nine clears, her highest winner total. One feature of this match was the number of services for each player. Despite the big numbers for Chah, she only generated .524 points off serve. That shows that Ngo limited Chah’s opportunities. But Chah really prevented Ngo much of anything at the service line with only five points off serve.

Chah broke the first set open on her third and fourth services with runs on each (8-3). Chah closed the first set with the last four points, the last two came on winners on the third stroke. Five of Chah’s 11 winners came on the third stroke in the first set.

In set two it was Ngo who had the first run, after Chah scored the first two points. Chah responded to Ngo’s run with a three point run of her own on her second service (5-3). At this point three of the points were on Ngo errors. Chah then put together the nine straight side out run, four of them came on two stroke winners. Of those four winners, three were clears. Ngo was able to hold off match point three times. On the fourth try Ngo sent a bird into the net to finish the match.

Category

<td
