Two weeks ago, the Hornets edged the Blaze 4-3. Today they did them one better. The match that flipped came at first singles. Seventh grader Angel Liang, on her third attempt, claimed victory over Mai Ngo. That was also the fourth win in the books for Edina sending them forward. The last match came at second doubles, one of two matches that took three sets.

FIRST SINGLES

Angel LIANG 2, mai NGO 0
(21-12, 21-18)

In set one Liang broke free from a six all tie with three consecutive runs on services 5, 6, and 7. The resulting 11-3 burst put the first set on ice. Both players traded side outs the last eight birds. That shut down operation did a 180 at the start of the second set. Both players traded runs of five. For Ngo it was her first run of the match. Liang cranked up her smash game with a trio connecting for her second run of the set (11-8). Liang rode that momentum until a bit of turbulence propelled Ngo to an 18-17 deficit curtesy of three errors, all two strokes or less by Liang. A five stroke hitting error in the net broke the spell and Liang was able to close out her win with a two stroke clear on the second match point.

Category

LIANG

NGO

Side out

15/20-.750

9/20-.450

Longest side out string

7

3

3+ Runs

5

2

Longest point string

5

5

SERVING

Service points

21

10

Serving %

.951

.900

Point generated off serve

.500

.333

POINTS

Overall points

42

30

Points after 11

20

14

Points after own errors

7

8

STROKES

Strokes

155

103

Strokes per point

3.690

3.433

5+ rallies

12

7

2- rallies

16

13

WINNERS

24

17

Aces

2

1

Blocks

0

2

Clears

5

3

Drives

5

1

Drops

4

3

Soft drives

1

5

Smashes

7

2

ERRORS

13

18

Deep

1

1

Net

4

3

Wide

6

11

Serve

2

3

W:E Ratio

1.846

0.944

Margin

6.00

Set Point %

2/4-.500

Time

14:46.31

OUT &
