Especially in the Holiday home stretch. Especially when the household is dealing with illness. Last week the “week that was” did not get out due to these multiple causations. Here we go as we make up for lost time.

STARTS

How important is a fast start? Apparently very important. Of the seven contests examined in week five, six teams won when they A) scored first; B) got to 10 points first; and C) were up at the four minute mark. The quickness in getting to 10 is critical too. It should also be pointed out that the

Only two games took time to get to ten points, both involved Stillwater, both lasted over five minutes. In both cases it was the opponents that reached ten first. Four of the seven games saw teams get to ten prior to the 15 minute mark remaining. The average possession count to ten came on possession 7.42. The average time ticked off to ten was 3:23. The average margin at four minutes was a +7.29

The only game without a 10+ margin came on Wednesday with Park Center & Wayzata.

An interesting factor on the first score—-especially on the first possession. Four of them scores came on the first possession for the team, but also the first possession for ANY team. Psychologically teams were in the whole before touching the ball. And it also gives a psychological boost to the team scoring first. You can amplify that when it is a triple. You can expand that exponentially when the 3 is from one of the players that are not primary options. That was the case with PC’s Kayla Cox at home Wednesday against Wayzata. She delivered three 3s that day on the way to 11 points. Friday at Osseo she had one point.

Date

winner

SCORE 1ST

FIRST to 10 Points

Time to 10

FIRST to 10+ margin

UP at 4 MINUTES

Margin at 4

Final Spread

Monday

SPC

SPC 2nd

SPC 7th possession

3:07

SPC 3:50

SPC 14-4

+10

+52

Tuesday

WBL

WBL 1st

WBL 10th possession

5:40

WBL 15:00

WBL 8-6

+2

+14

Wednesday

PC

PC 1st

PC 6th possession

2:30

None

PC 11-10

+1

+9

Thursday

Stillwater

Sim 1st

Sim 12th possession

5:14

Sim 7:50

Sim 9-4

+5

-7

Friday

PC

PC 2nd

PC 7th possession

2:31

PC 2:45

PC 17-3

+14

+22

Saturday.1

Bemidji

B 2nd

B 5th possession

2:20

B 2:20

B 10-2

+8

+6

Saturday.2

Minnetonka

MTKA 1st possession

MTKA 5th possession

2:24

M 2:24

MTKA 12-1

+11

+13

NOSTALGIA

Twenty years goes by in an instant. Savor the moments now. Appreciate all the winding twists and turns on the journey. It was interesting to hear the players from the 2000 AAAA state championship Osseo team and what they took away from the experience. It was the relationships, the atmosphere, the culture that resonated the most, a lot of the memories off the court. Creating that environment is essential for positive vibes that echo through the ages.

SEEDING THE STATE

No seismic shifts, but the jockeying for positions is intensifying. The AA world seems to be the most competitive with pathways down to six in the state championship mix.
