The host Titans swept the singles and took second doubles. All the singles were done in two sets. All the doubles went the distance at three sets. Roosevelt’s singles line up was altered because the Minneapolis school district is on spring break and two players were absent. That meant Abigail Martinez, who was third singles in the North St. Paul match, and fourth singles in the South contest was moved to the top spot.

Tartan, like North St. Paul, has six nets in a portion of their gym. There are plenty of ceiling obstructions and the replays occur frequently. There were at least six stoppages and redoes today.

Tartan’s coach is David Lu, who last year helped as an assistant at Minneapolis South.

Tartan, located in Oakdale, and NSP are both in the Metro East conference. By my tally there are 26 active teams this season. The chances for more schools joining the action in 2023 is high. So far this season I have charted 14.

This was Roosevelt’s first team loss of the season. Kaila did not allow a single point on 13 Martinez serves. By extension she controlled the winner tally 24-3. Kaila’s drop game delivered six points, the highest winner total for her.

The first points of the match came on errors. Kaila had a two stroke clear for the first winner to go up 3-1. Her first run came two services later on a run of seven. Her second run of that set came on the final three points of the set.

Martinez enjoyed her only lead of the night after a four stroke drive on the first serve of the second set. Kaila started the second set with two consecutive runs of four and eight. With Martinez unable to generate any points of her serve the outcome soon came to a conclusion.

Category

<td
