And they did it with some alterations to their line ups. Noly Lor moved from second doubles to fourth singles. She won her debut there in three. Yesterday’s third doubles pair of Lavender Moua and Evylynn Yang moved up on notch while Gwendalyn Vang, Lor’s usual partner, was paired with Muia Tirado Guzman and they also won their debut.

The Titans won three singles matches and the last two doubles to build their win. There were three three set matches today with all going to the Titans. The two three setters at singles were not in doubt with margins over ten. The tightest three setter came at second doubles where Lavender Moua and Evylynn Yang got a tight 21-18 win. The whole day was tight with the singles average gap of 2.10 points. The doubles were even tighter at less than half a point separation 0.429. Showcasing the tight nature of the match was three sets going to extra points. All came at singles with Tartan taking two.

With M&S charted I now have 19 teams of the 28 completed—with nine to go.

And no I was not stalking Tartan (three straight days). Not only did this match go three sets, but the stroke counts were higher than recent matches. Yesterday, when charting Xiong against Kennedy, her stroke count was 3.1. Today that bumped up to 4.1 strokes. Even though the rallies lasted longer there were some fast points. One area that Emily dominated was aces with nine total. Xiong was shut out in that category. Emily won the fast points (two strokes or less) 27-13. Take away the aces and that advantage falls to 18-13.

Xiong wasted no time getting her first run, and neither did Emily it was 3-3 as a result. Xiong used her second run to build a 10-5 lead. With a 14-6 lead it looked like Xiong was in command. But a four-stroke block switched the momentum over to Emily who then had her longest run of the night with five straight. That cut the margin to 14-11. Xiong finished with a four point run to close out the first set including a seven point drop to cap it off.

Another Xiong three point run to open the second set had a déjà vu feel. Emily found deep corners on the serve for two points in a run of five to go in front 8-6. That happened again two services later, but the last ace was in dispute. Right after that point Xiong came up with two straight smashes of six and seven strokes close the stated score of 15-14. Emily was at 20-17 when another smash party by Xiong tied it up at 20. Emily regained the bird after a nine stroke error in the net and she added two more points for the victory.

The first run went to Emily after the initial point by Xiong. But then Emily’s tank ran dry. Xiong came up with six straight points, four of which were winners to lead 7-3. Emily never got another run while Xiong added two more runs.

Today Xiong’s winner of choice was the smash with 11. Soft drives were close behind with 10.

For some reason the count totals did not match my scoring. There were no “lets” from what I saw.

Today was my first three set match charting first singles.

<td
