The first singles mirrored the team outcomes at the Edina Presidential Triangular. The Hornet\u2019s Tenzin Tsephel roared back from a loss on Wednesday to Harding\u2019s Kimberly Tobar and in the process picked up two wins. Washington’s Ariel Fang won once. Kennedy’s Morgan Aufdenkamp was shut out.<\/p>\n

Tsephel did a massive clean up on her game limiting errors from a sky high 30 to a combined 16 in the two matches Thursday. On top of that Tsephel slammed the door shut on both Aufdenkamp and Fang when it came to the side out game. Tsephel only allowed five total service points all day after Tobar feasted on 25 Wednesday. In fact, Tsephel won combined service points 57-5 for the day. No service points (or a lack thereof) means runs are hard to come by. Tsephel shut out her opponents 15-0 in that all important category.<\/p>\n

All matches were over quickly with the Fang\/Aufdenkamp contest the longest at over 15 minutes. Looking at stroke categories the fast points (two strokes or less) led in all three matches.<\/p>\n

First singles are usually played on court one at Edina (to the far left as you enter the gym) and once again poor serving reared its head. Could it be air circulation?\u00a0 On Wednesday Tsephel missed five serves. Thursday Aufdenkamp had eight alone in the first contest against Tsephel. She cut that in half in the match against Fang. The Washington player took over the lead in that dubious category with five in that match against Kennedy. Serving (thankfully) was strong in the final set with both players off on one.<\/p>\n

ALERT: I only recorded one first doubles match—Edina vs Washington. That analysis will come out over the weekend.<\/p>\n
