EDEN PRAIRIE 7, KENNEDY 0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was the Battle of the Eagles at Kennedy as the visitors from Eden Prairie took the brooms to the hosts. This was the second contest between the two and EP took the series. In both series Morgan Aufdenkamp, the Kennedy first singles, did not take part. Today was also a testing day and Aufdenkamp arrived later and did an exhibition of one set, which she won 21-15, with Elena Lissick.<\/p>\n

With Aufdenkamp\u2019s absence it moved the rest of the lineup one level. EP also had to adjust their listings with doubles being paired differently, and movement up the chain. It did not impact the final score, but perhaps it impacted the margins. Lineup changes have happened more than once this season with other schools.<\/p>\n

The match had tighter matches than wide margins and also had three sets that went to extra points. Two matches went into three sets. All went to the EP version of the Eagles. The closest match of the day came at third doubles where Kate & Ashtyn Bernardy split with Allison and Emily of Kennedy the first two sets, both going to extra points. After the first two sets being a white knuckle ride the final set gave more space with the EP duo claiming the victory.<\/p>\n

      FIRST SINGLES <\/strong><\/p>\n

      Elena LISSICK 2, Kateryna MYKHAILOVYCH 0 (21-14, 24-22)<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Elena Lissick of Eden Prairie picked up her second win of the year at first doubles in a two-set victory over Kateryna Mykhailovych. This was Mykhailovych\u2019s second appearance at first singles. The first time she lost to Edina\u2019s Tenzin Tsephel. She has played mostly at second singles this year with six at that slot.<\/p>\n

      In set one Lissick established herself right away with two runs on her opening services (6-1). Lissick did not allow any runs for Mykhailovych until the finish line was in sight. The Kennedy Eagle held off set point three straight times to get her only run of the first set.<\/p>\n

      Set two was a different story. It had more drama. Mykhailovych got a two stroke smash off Lissick\u2019s opening serve and then saw a two stroke error give her a 2-0 lead. The pair traded runs on the third (K) and fourth (EP) service which left the score knotted at six. Lissick\u2019s side out game picked up four straight goose eggs while being able to squeeze off a point here and there. The 12-9 lead Mykhailovych enjoyed flipped to Lissick 17-15. Then a missed serve opened the door for the Kennedy player. She rattled off her longest string capped by two straight clears to edge in front 19-17. The rallies seemed to go longer in this match. There were eight mega-rallies (10 or more strokes) on the match with Lissick taking five. Down the stretch there were three and Lissick had the hat trick. The first was a ten stroke wide error that tied the set at 19. A four stroke smash gave Mykhailovych her first set point. Lissick answered with a six stroke smash. An eight stroke soft drive to the left gave Mykhailovych opportunity number two for the set. Another ten stroke shot, this time a smash evened it up again at 21. After an ace it was Lissick\u2019s first set point. Mykhailovich held off with a four stroke drive tying the score at 22. The longest rally of the day took place next with Lissick savoring a 13 stroke hitting error that sailed wide. A three stroke soft drive ended the match.<\/p>\n

      Lissick had 18 smashes on the day, but I would not characterize her style as a power game. She took advantage of birds hanging juicily in the air. Lissick used winners 75.6% of the time for her points. Mykhailovych\u2019s winner total was 55.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
