The Rangers, behind the one-two scoring punch of Gopher bound Tori Oehrlein (29) and Regan Juenemann (26) topped the host Tornadoes 74-65 in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. At the start Anoka quickly built up a 14-7 lead only to see CI jump right back into the game at 19-18 over the course of three minutes. Oehrlein had nine of those dozen points. The rest of the half was basically a one point game with Anoka finding themselves back on top 32-31. With 9:34 left in the game the Rangers bumped out to a 50-44 margin forcing an Anoka time out. Oehrlein led that charge by grabbing the rebound and racing down court with lay ups for her or her teammates. That time out righted the ship where the hosts closed to 56-55 with over five minutes left. Juenemann responded on the next CI possession with a 3. The Rangers maintained their advantage at 63-61 after the fifth &1 for Anoka (converting three) with 3:14 left. CI responded in crunch time by scoring on six of their last nine possessions; while Anoka converted twice.

Anoka made use of their post play by getting the ball to Deborah Ayeni, who scored on every 1.74 touches. Regan Juenemann, who last year played at Duluth Marshall, was slightly better scoring one point every 1.73 touches. The difference Juenemann knocked down four 3s. Ayeni was 8/9 inside.

The 31 Club was busy with three members. Indeed Oehrlein made the 31 Club by half on her way to the 61 Club (at 62). Besides her 29 points she had 22 d stops with 11 distributions in 16 set up attempts (68%). These factors, seeing a different game than the rest, seeing players open before they know it (especially the defense) and exploiting of slight body changes by defenders helps explain the Gopher selection. One improvement from early years is understanding her foul situation. She is not as reckless picking up fouls. Juenemann made the 31 Club with a 34. Madlin Freking of Anoka also got in with a 32 helped by scoring 23 points. For the game CI had a pp100 of 107.2 while Anoka was not far behind with a 95.6. That tops several earlier games this week where some teams struggled to get past 75.

RESULTS

AAAA

#3 Eden Prairie 60, #6 Prior Lake 50

#5 Wayzata 102, Park Center 31

AAA

#2 Marshall 62, Luverne 22

#3 Alexandria 77, Willmar 59

#7 Rock Ridge 61, North Branch 41

#8 Monticello 69, Buffalo 33

#10 Orono 78, St. Peter 55

AA

#1 Providence 94, Albany 24

#2 Crosby-Ironton 74, Anoka 65

#4 Minnehaha 108, Breck 21

#5 New London-Spicer 81, Paynesville 40

#6 Sauk Centre 91, Legacy Christian 41

#7 Caledonia 61, Rushford-Peterson 31

A

#2 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 74, Chisholm 57

#3 Cass Lake-Bena 84, Northome-Kelliher 64

#6 Kittson County Central 86, Goodridge-Grygla-Gatzke 49

#7 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 99, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 27

#9 Breckenridge 80, Norman County East / UH 23

#10 Lester Prairie 80, Cedar Mountain 74

DAY AHEAD

There are 30 games today:

Most interesting

#1AAAA Hopkins at #3AA Duluth Marshall.
