Ramblers coach Pat Bowlin picked up career win #700 earlier in the week. This was not going to be #701. Every Lion roared in the 105-42 victory. The key factor was the speed of the game indicated by the pressure applied to Cotter resulting in 38 turnovers or one every 8.76 touches. That translated into easy lay ups and 32 more field goals. Providence had enough in the bank to secure victory with slightly under two minutes left in the first half as they created a 46-12 lead.

The pp100 for Providence was an overwhelming 132.9 for the team compared to Cotter’s 54.5. On top of that, the Providence bench had an even better mark of 146.7. The starters 129.7 is nothing to sneeze at. All five of the Lions almost made the 31 Club with Hope Counts and Beckett Greenway just missing with 28 each. Maddyn Greenway led all with a 45 score on the strength of 26 points and pp100 of 113. McKenna Schaefer and Emma Millerbernd each had 31. Schaefer is probably the least familiar of the five starters, but she is fulfilling the role that Brooke Hoenecker provided last season. In fact, if Schaefer touched the ball on a possession, Providence scored at the rate of 59.25 percent. That is a number generally reserved for post players. Usually, a score close to 40% is considered pretty good.

Getting back to the bench…Providence connected on 13 3s for the game with the deep bench scoring 3/3. This is not good news for Lion future opponents.

Providence continues their tour of the Three Rivers conference later this week when Dover-Eyota comes to Plymouth.

QUEST FOR…

Checking the top 10s

AAAA: I made a mistake last week indicating I have seen all top 10. I am searching to see the best game available within a certain radius of my home. No more long, solo treks across the frozen tundra and returning home close to 1 am (or later). If that means seeing the same team over & over & over again I will.

UNBEATEN

Heading into last week there were 112 teams without a loss. Now there are 59. Expect more to fall this week.

Who would have thunk that the three teams without a blemish in AAAA would not be in the top ten list or in the seeding the state list (so far). The surprise team exiting the AAAA list was Hopkins in their loss to Eastview on Wednesday. Three of the eight AAA teams left are on the seeding list.

I will go out on a limb and state that the AAAA state champion will NOT be undefeated this season.

Once a class gets to ten or less I will list the teams.

AAAA: 3 Mounds View, New Prague, Sartell

AAA: 8 Austin, Delano, Holy Angels, Mahtomedi, Marshall, Monticello, Red Wing, Rock Ridge

AA: 27

A: 20

STREAKING

St. Michael-Albertville fell of this list with a loss at home to former Mississippi 8 rival Monticello.
