Former Hopkins Miss Basketball winner Nia Hollie is at the helm of the Warriors and the hosts dissected the visitors 91-32. Hopkins had enough for the victory with 7:08 left to go in the first half when up 33-8.

As usual the Hopkins full court defense was key. They forced 32 turnovers, or one every 8.31 touches, many in the backcourt. This led to frequent layup opportunities and Hopkins enjoyed taking 28 more shot attempts. Another big factor was second chance opportunities. Hopkins had 19 offensive boards to seven. Just looking at Hopkins’ missed shot chances the Royals rebounded those at a very healthy 46.3% clip. On the other end, Two Rivers grabbed their own miss at a 21.2% rate. The Royals also feasted on the three point line with eleven to only one for TR. The bench provided five of those 3s for Hopkins. In fact the loudest cheer came on the last play of the game when Lanaia Durant stole the ball near midcourt, took one bounce and let it fly. For dramatic effect the ball bounce around the rim and through for the final points as the horn sounded. One area both were equal came at the free throw line with 31 attempts each. That should clue you in that this was a very physical contest. Overall, the winner’s pp100 was 123.0 to only 43.8 in a running time win. This sure beats the 60 pp100 the Royals had in their opening win over Lakeville North.

With Tatum Woodson of Hopkins out with a knee injury the Royals have had to adjust their line up. Defense has always been their bread and butter and that won’t change. The scoring leader may rotate depending on the opponent. Last night Lauren Hillesheim, North Dakota bound next year, topped the Royals efforts with 20 including 4/7 from beyond the arc. She also was the only member of the 31 Club with a score of 34.

DAY AHEAD

There are 136 contests on tap today.
