With the result of that win Chaska joined the top 10 listing. Adding a layer of intrigue onto this contest was the implications for section 2AAAA seeding, probably the most brutal AAAA section in the state. The hype was better than the game.

The Eagles flirted with running time in the 87-56 beat down of the Hawks. EP pounced early, took advantage of early mounting fouls for Chaska, and won convincingly. Three Eagles reached the coveted 31 Club led by Tori Schlagel, making the next level up (41 Club) at 43. Teammates Rae Ehrmann (37) and Vanessa Jordan (34) joined her. Jordan delivered 14/21 on the distribution charts to help propel her to the 31 Club. Schlagel defensively was a ball hawk (or in this case a ball eagle) with game high 12 d stops of which eight came via steals. That went along with her game high 28 points. Ehrman also had a double-double with 22 points and one less d stop at 11. All five Eagle starters were on fire with each cracking the century pp100 mark. The starters together were at 120.6 for the game, the Eagles were 104.8 with the bench added. This was ahead of the 68.3 put up by Chaska. Their starters did check in with a 78.9.

Chaska was hampered by early fouls. Their 31 Club member (on the nose) was Addi Schneider. Schneider had her second foul at the 12:44 mark of the first half, but already the game was slipping away at 17-6. By the time of her third foul at 9:08 the Hawks trailed by 13 at 25-12. With Schneider sentenced to the bench the Eagles soared to a 46-23 halftime lead. EP then bolted out of the gates to start the second half with six straight scores making it a 61-25 contest. At the widest it was 67-29. Chaska prevented the running time scenario thanks to four straight scores shortly after that all from Schneider’s hand. But the comeback was extremely steep even then.

The further breakdown showcased EP’s efficiency on the quick end scoring on plays lasting three touches or less 23/53 (43.4%) compared to Chaska’s 14/50 (28.0). The Hawks were much better in the control/deliberate game of seven or more touches going 6/11 (54.5%) while EP avoided those possibilities with a cold 2/7 mark (28.6%).

One other sidelight—-there were six offensive fouls (some were screens that had not been fully established).

DAY AHEAD

There are 18 games for Saturday.
