ABOUT LAST NIGHT\u2026.Brainerd v Buffalo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nFinally out again..Lack of games on a couple of days plus limited mobility kept me confined. It was a \u201cB\u201d night with two 8AAAA teams locking horns. Both have been in the top 50 in the QRF. Brainerd traveled to Buffalo looking to bounce back from a loss at Fergus Falls the night before. The Bison were looking to continue their four-game winning streak. The Warriors overcame a slow start to stop the hosts 72-54. There were two key stretches which dovetailed together after about nine minutes of action. At that stage Buffalo had jumped out to an 18-10 lead with the ability to get the ball inside and getting fouled. Indeed, twice on the same possession Mia Haugen for Buffalo beat her defender on cuts to the right side of the rim. Cora Clough had to leave the scene momentarily with two fouls in the first three minutes. Brainerd shifted away from man defense to a 1-3-1. This initiated a Buffalo scoring drought of seven possessions, the last five of which all ended on turnovers. One of those five straight possessions the Bison were able to get a shot off, get the rebound, but coughed it up. Still Buffalo led 20-17. Then the second shoe fell. This time it was Brainerd\u2019s offense that ignited. Two straight plays ended with an old fashioned &1. The next two possessions ended with 3s. 12 points in four possessions transformed the contest and now the visitors led 29-20 and the momentum was not going to leave the Warriors from that point on. After one non-scoring possession Brainerd again connected from deep making it a 15-0 run. Brainerd led at the break 34-25.<\/p>\n
Brainerd won the rebound battle with a plus five but on the offensive glass they snagged 45.7% of all misses while the Bison had a 37.1% clip on the O boards. Add in the plus twelve advantage on turnovers (Brainerd turned it over on every 30.82 touches, Buffalo 19.04). Clough at the point of the 1-3-1 was able to disrupt the flow of the Buffalo offense with four touches. Her teammates pounced on the errant passes and forced dribbles. Compounding that was the plus 22 shot attempt advantage. The visitors were also better behind the arc with seven conversions to only two for the hosts. Mya Tautges led the way for Brainerd with 25 points, a healthy 166.7 pp100 and joined the 31 Club with 34. Tautges had 72 touches without a turnover. 6-1 freshman Brianna Eggers led Buffalo with 18 points and a 112.5 pp100. She missed the 31 Club by two.<\/p>\n
