The Eagles topped the Minutemen 5-2 snapping a four game losing streak to start the season. Central is still searching for their first win after four matches for new coach Ron McGinnis who has replaced Brian Reinhardt. The singles portion of the match was dead even with Central taking the odd positions and Washington the evens. The point totals were both the same 153. The only category where Central came out ahead was the set totals at 5-4.

Only one match went three sets and that came at second singles when Melaine Xiong outlasted Kaitlyn Galeazzi 21-18 in the final frame, flipping the same score from their second set. Doubles were clearly in favor of the Eagles with four of the six sets decided by ten or more points.

WASHINGTON 5, CENTRAL 2

SINGLES

1 Lennon Folstad, C def Bao Nhia Moua 21-14, 21-10

2 Melanie Xoing, W def Katilyn Galeazzi 21-13, 18-21, 21-18

3 Clara Rynkiewich, C def Nhia Vang 21-14, 21-13

4 Ceferina Xiong, W def Anne Wallace 21-6, 21-11

DOUBLES

1 Megan Fang / Samira Khalif, W def Cathy Hang / Made Febiola 21-7, 21-11

2 Nulen Lee / Rashmi Gurung, W def Marina Chang / Neemat Nisa 21-15, 21-4

3 Kyala Yang / Alexis Lee, W def Naomi Pauls / Josie Ganfield 21-8, 21-15

BY THE NUMBERS
SINGLES
Matches: Tied 2-2 .500
Games: Central 5-4 .556
points: tie 153-153 .500
Set 1 points: Washington 70-61 .534
Set 2 points: Central 74-62 .545
Set 3 points: Washington 21-18 .538
decided by 10+: Washington 2-1 .667
decided by 3-: Central 1-0 1.000
margin: tied 0.00
DOUBLES
Matches: Washington 3-0 1.000
Games: Washington 6-0 1.000
points: Washington 126-60 .677
Set 1 points: Washington 63-30 .677
Set 2 points: Washington 63-30 .677
decided by 10+: Washington 4-0 1.000
decided by 3-: none
margin: Washington 11.00

FIRST SINGLES

Lennon FOLSTAD 2, Bao Nhia MOUA 0
(21-14, 21-10)

Central’s Lennon Folstad picked up her second win of the season with a two set victory over Bao Nhia Moua of Washington. Folstad’s only loss this year is to current #1 Su Meh of Johnson. Moua has yet to pick up a set in her five matches. Points came fast in this match with 56% of the points coming on two strokes or less indicating the serve/receive game was paramount. There were a combined five aces and 10 service errors alone. Folstad was 5-3 on second stroke points while Moua struggled on the second stroke going 2-12. There was four point stretch in Folstad’s third run of the second set where Moua had four straight hitting errors, three of which sailed wide.

Folstad also prevented any traction for Moua holding her to only one run in both sets while getting three runs in each set. And when she did get a run, especially as the match wore on, it tended to be longer stretches.

Folstad established a 6-2 lead on her second service in the first set with a four point winner spree, the only stretch of any player with straight winners. Her second run pushed her to a 13-5 lead capped by two aces in that five point stretch. Moua’s only run of the day came on her seventh service and that narrowed the gap to 17-12.

Things did not vary much in the second set with Folstad jumping out of the gate with four straight. Her second run which came on her fifth service broke the match open with an additional five points (12-6). A missed serve interrupted another run right after of six (with the two stroke error stretch).

Category

<td
