The Edina Invitational was the big event of the week. Indeed, it is the only tournament type event save the conference individual tournaments right before state. The EI clarified and sorted out rankings as top-level players faced each other in more head to head contests. Also helping the rankings is the fact that the St. Paul conference is deep into their schedule highlighting head-to-head matchups. The EI serves as preparation for the state tournament in terms of the number of matches needed to win a title. To win a singles or doubles title a team will need to piece together six wins. There will be no lose and move on at state unlike the playback provision at the EI. The winners at EI were all #1s coming into the event.<\/p>\n

Even though we are a good two weeks into the year, four schools have yet to see a scheduled match yet. There really won\u2019t be much action this week due to spring break for a vast majority of schools. There are only two matches (so far) that I can see on the menu this week. So far, I have charted exactly half of the 30 schools participating this year. I am not counting the EI teams that I have not seen in duals (Eden Prairie & Tartan).<\/p>\n

One more thing…..counting…or lack thereof. The scores reported are not always the scores that really occur. Most of the times it does not matter. On Friday I have started to film the doubles matches. So far I have charted just the first set at first doubles of the Como Park\/North St. Paul match. I had that at 19-19 when they left the court. CP won that first set 21-19 in the books. NSP took the second. This could have tipped the scales to the Polars if the first set score was played out to the real 21. My recommendation is to be loud on score calls. Probably have both players recite the score.<\/p>\n

I will have the stats for the CP \/NSP #1 doubles match wrapped up later on Sunday.<\/p>\n

STANDINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Math & Science does not have a loss at doubles (albeit after only one match). For those schools with multiple matches Edina has the best doubles percentage with a 19-2 record .905. Bloomington Kennedy has the best singles percentage at 21-3 .875.<\/p>\n

Enough matches have occurred to include second singles and doubles in the individual rankings.<\/p>\n

One the individual side of the equation four singles have yet to stumble this year with Kennedy having two: Kateryna Mykhailovich and Morgan Aufdenkamp. Both have spent time at first and second singles. Also in that undefeated mix are Tsuki Solheid of Como Park and Sophia Mitchell of Roosevelt. Tsuki Solheid has played second singles all year. The only doubles pair without a match loss is Ivy Peterson \/ Sanna Coma of Edina. Their victory margin has been 13.00 points per set this year. Morgan Aufdenkamp of Kennedy has the highest points per set margin at singles with 9.20.<\/p>\n
