So it was off to Kennedy for their non-conference match up with Roosevelt.

The Eagles prevailed in a tight 4-3 contest. Kennedy took the first three singles and last doubles to win. The last two matches finished came in the first two doubles and they tipped to the Teddies. Five of the matches today lasted three sets with Roosevelt winning three of them. Six of the sets were decided by two or less. A change of four points would have given Kennedy a 6-1 win. It was so tight at doubles that Kennedy outpointed Roosevelt by 18 despite losing. The Teddies were a perfect 3-0 in sets decided by three in doubles.

Another feature of this match was unbeaten players facing each other. Two players who have spent time at number one singles battled at second singles today. Both did not have a loss on the year…until today. Kennedy’s Kateryna Mykhailovich is now 7-0 on the year defeating previously unbeaten Sophia Mitchell in two with a margin of 11.5. That wasn’t the only unbeaten match up. At first singles Morgan Aufdencamp picked up the victory over Mollie Anderson in two sets with the margin of 12. See first singles story below for more details. Aufdencamp moves to 6-0. Both Mitchell and Anderson are now 3-1.

As for the teams—Kennedy is now 5-2 while Roosevelt falls to 4-2 overall.

By the way this broke the chain of charting one team two straight times….Tartan was the last link from Como Park to North St. Paul to Math & Science.

SINGLES
1. That differential was 13 points. By contrast, the long (five strokes plus) rallies were even at eight. Most of those two pointers came on Anderson errors. Aufdencamp skillfully capitalized on 14 points in the two strokes or fewer category while conceding only two points herself. The winners for each player were fairly limited with Aufdencamp earning a dozen to Anderson’s eleven.

Aufdencamp broke the first set open on her fifth service with a run of eight service points to put the set out of reach 16-5. In that sequence four of the points came on the second stroke errors. Anderson saved two set points before ultimately losing 21-13.

The big difference in set two came in the side out game. Aufdencamp only allowed one service point while getting nine of ten side outs. There were no huge runs for Aufdencamp in this set, but she did pick up three straight three point runs which turned a 3-2 deficit into an 11-5 lead.

As noted, the winners were few and far between for either player. Showcasing the defensive nature of the contest Aufdencamp did earn three blocks. Both players led with four smashes each.

Category

AUFDENCAMP

<td
