That means I have 30 teams to check off my list. After today I have ten to go as 67% of the squads have been charted in dual action at least once. But some of the teams are not at full strength. That is the case with Washburn. The Millers have not fielded a full squad….yet. I have been told the numbers will be going up. Today, however, there were only three Millers available. The visiting Lakers were more active, just because there were more bodies, in the set up.

It is hard to compete when right out of the gate you are down 4-0. That was the case today as Washburn had to forfeit all doubles matches plus four singles. As a result, only three competitive matches took place. In that scenario, Washburn “won” 2-1 taking the odd singles. But in the books the Lakers prevailed 5-2. A full squad plus JV players were in attendance for SW.

Don’t be fooled by the margin listed below. Washburn “won” the margin race by a slim 1.333. Lily used a strong side out game and a mixed bag of winners to piece together her win. An interesting feature of this match was the numerous long rallies. 31 of the 64 points lasted five strokes or longer. Eight points went to a double-digit stroke count with the longest being 18 strokes. Lily won the mega strokes 5-3. Lily’s favorite winner today was the smash for a total of 7 while Kaysa utilized the soft drive for four points.

It appeared that Lily would march to victory in set one as she notched her first run on her fourth service and added another on her sixth for a substantial 13-5 lead. Kaysa, on her eighth serve, erupted for seven points initiated by a 14 stroke clear to the right. That put the game at a more competitive 14-13. Lily responded right away with a run of four to push the margin back to 18-13. The last two points in that sequence were an 11 stroke drive followed by a 17 stroke clear. Kaysa had one last gasp with a run of three to close the gap to 18-16. An eight stroke smash put Lily back in the momentum and she closed out three points later.

Set two still featured long rallies, but Lily’s side out game prevented any runs by Kaysa. Two big runs of seven (11-3) and nine right at the end made this a forgone conclusion. The first set the winner totals were 11 each. Not set two. There Lily prevailed 13-4.

Category

LILY

<td
