After five weeks into the season all 30 schools are now active. Fridley was the thirtieth team to begin play this week when they traveled to Edison on Thursday. Two schools have double digit dual match wins so far this season—#1 Edina is undefeated at 11-0 and #2 Como Park is right behind at 10-1. Both are slated to play this Tuesday at Edina. I expect a few more double digit schools in the next week.<\/p>\n

Como Park also travels to #3 Harding on Thursday. The Cougars topped the Knights 6-1 in the first meeting.<\/p>\n

Other matches of interest during the week include Burnsville at Edina on Thursday\u2014another phase of the first doubles battles between #1 Ivy Peterson and Sanna Coma of Edina vs #2 Katie Murray and Natalie Portwood of Burnsville. Also Thursday one school will pick up their first win in program history when Fridley heads to Park Center. Roosevelt is hosting Camden on Friday. The Teddies have a leg up on the Patriots in the Minneapolis race.<\/p>\n

For the year I have upped the total of 24 of the 30 schools or 80%. I have completed the St. Paul Conference charting. I should be able to get all 30 by the time the state tournament rolls around.<\/p>\n

    INDIVIDUALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Kennedy\u2019s Kateryna Mykhailovich vaults to the number two spot after the two set win over previous number two Hazel Dang of Edina. It was Dang\u2019s fourth loss of the year. The other three times have been to number one Su Meh of Johnson. Mykhailovich has not lost yet this season. In her ten matches so far she has been pushed to three sets once. She has split time at both first and second singles. Earlier in the week Dang defeated number four Lennon Folstad of Central in three sets.<\/p>\n

    Two other singles players have yet to lose a match this year. Morgan Aufdencamp of Kennedy and Tsuki Solheid of Como Park. Aufdencamp has been the number one at Kennedy but was out this week with an ankle injury. Solheid is the number two singles behind Niko Solheid for the Cougars.<\/p>\n

    The moves at doubles has Jolena and Claire of North St. Paul sliding into the third spot. There is flux in the St. Paul lineups as schools try to find the right combinations. That is why you will see some smaller samples of contests.<\/p>\n

    As for margins Ivy Peterson and Sanna Coma of Edina at doubles leads everyone with a 12.32 point differential per set. They have not lost a set all year. Topping the singles list is Kateryna Mykhailovich with 8.50 if you only measure the time spent at first singles, 10.30 if you add in second singles.<\/p>\n

    The top two singles and doubles players from each school will be entered into the state tournament. In addition to the potential 60 players four more players, the third singles from the top four teams will also be playing. Depending on if schools stay away from the individual portion of the state it could happen that the third singles and doubles could go to the fifth seeded team and so on until the number reaches 64 to fill the bracket.<\/p>\n
