The host Mustangs, after a slow start, then ran roughshod over the Titans in a 67-52 victory. Coming into the game Maranatha was the #35 ranked team according to the QRF method and Tartan was not far behind at #45.

Tartan scored on their second and third possessions for a quick 5-0 lead and extended it to 14-5 with about 12:30 to go in the half. Then Maranatha got into an offensive groove led by senior forward Olivia Lanari. She hit back to back 3s followed by a pair of free throws after a put back attempt. This was the Mustangs’ first string of the day—four possessions but still trailed at this point 14-13. At the ten minute mark they took the lead for good in the middle of a massive 21-0 run. The Titans came up empty for seven minutes, or 13 possessions, a drought of biblical proportions in which they would not recover. By half Maranatha led 35-25.

The second half saw Tartan attempt to climb out of that steep hole a couple of times. The Titans brought the deficit under double digits twice. In the first sequence they cut the score to 45-37. Maranatha responded with 16-2 push to make it 61-39. That run was capped by Lanari’s 1000 point, a 3 from up top. A 13-2 Tartan swing gave the Titans some hope, but that rally soon stalled out with three minutes left in the game. Tartan did not score again in their final six possessions.

Taking the two mega runs together Maranatha outscored the Titans 37-2. Tartan “won” the rest of the night 50-30. The hosts grabbed offensive rebounds at a 46.2% clip. And they valued the ball a better rate of 31.27 touches per turnover to the 10.27 for Tartan, almost three times better. That difference prevented Tartan from getting quality shots where they outperformed Maranatha.

Team

Pt

PP100

OR/DR

FTA/m

2A/M

3A/M

TO/TOTO

Maranatha

67

98.5

24/20

8/15

19/53

7/21

11/31.27

Tartan

52

76.5

10/28

6/11

14/25

6/21

26/10.27

There was only one player that cracked the 31 Club and that was 1000 point scorer Olivia Lanari of Maranatha.
