Two Wolverines returned from the All Tournament team. 6-1 MSU Mankato bound Brielle Janssen and 6-0 Emma Thien. But the Bluejays were more like ravenous birds of prey as they devoured the slow starting Wolverines 75-40 getting to the running time portion of the game with under two minutes left.

MACCRAY would not score for the first 5:20 of the game (on their ninth possession) whereas CMC scored the first ten points. The Wolverines had already used one time out to try to unlock the Bluejay defense. When MACCRAY broke through it was Janssen that did the job. She was one of only two Wolverines scored the first half. Janssen had 18 of the 21 points (85.7%). The rest of the squad never got into the flow with passes that were slow, spacing that was congested and frustration mounting. At the break it was 31-21.

MACCRAY cashed in on the first possession of the second half getting the deficit to seven. It appeared that there might be a competitive game ahead. But that was a mirage. That was also the highwater mark. After that CMC asserted themselves on both ends of the court. In the first half CMC was scoring at a 93.9 clip. In the second half that rose to a robust 129.4. Janssen would not get many clean looks if any in the second half and only had six points. In the second half only two others joined her in scoring as they only had 19 total. Duininck raised her game in the second half with 18 points and a 200 pp100 mark.

The Bluejays outperformed last year’s A runner up with offensive board production at 34.21% to 15.63%. They overwhelmed MACCRAY on 2% indicating their offensive movement both players and the ball generating wide open shots against the zone. The pressure they faced also led to a massive 58.14 touches per turnover count. CMC was ready for the spotlight. The only area they did not excel in was at the free throw line with only six attempts to the 14 for MACCRAY. Perhaps a stat that doesn’t get emphasized enough is the paint touches. CMC doubled that 61-30. That is one reason why MACCRAY only had 17 shots from 2.

Team

Pt

PP100

OR/DR

FTM/a

2M/A

3M/A

TO/TpTO

LEAD

Central MN Christian

75

111.9

13/27

2/6

26/43

7/23

7/58.14

35

MACCRAY

40

58.8

5/25

10/14

6/17

6/26

23/14.48

0

In every phase of the game Duininck excelled.
