The Polars have made big strides from last year. In 2016 they were 18-92 overall in individual singles and doubles during the regular season (.164). After today, North has already passed last year’s mark with a 23-19 mark (.547). The Polars are no longer forfeiting matches with a full roster at ten. Today North took all but third singles. That match went three sets with the last set going to extra points. There was one other match that went three sets and North took that at second doubles. The Polars also were able to take the other two sets that went to extra points at fourth singles, second set, and at third doubles, third set. That extra point-fest went out to 26-24.

I now have five teams left to chart. Edison is one of them since a JV isn’t a varsity. Big early runs were the trademark of this match. On her second service in the first set, Gross ran up nine straight to lead 10-2. The main feature here was a deep serve, followed by a clear attempt, followed by a clear by Gross for a point. The same pattern held in the second set as Gross rang up 14 straight after Dominguez had jumped in front 2-0. Gross made use of six smashes in this set. In each set Gross tallied 15 winners. Dominguez only had two winners all day. In the stats below Gross has 41 points. That is because I only charted her out to 20 in set one.

Category

GROSS

DOMINGUEZ

Side out

2/9-.222

4/11-.364

3+ Runs

7

0

Longest point string

14

2

Service points

32

7

Overall points

41

16

Strokes

145

66

Strokes per point

3.537

4.125

5+ rallies

12

5

2- rallies

7

4

WINNERS

30

2

Aces

3

0

Blocks

0

0

Clears

10

1

Drives

6

1

Drops

2

0

Soft drives

1

0

Smashes

8

0

ERRORS

14

11

Deep

2

0

Net

8

7

Wide

3

3

Serve

1

1

W:E Ratio

2.143

0.182

Margin

12.50

Set Point %

2/2-1.000

Time

13:31.62

[5
MINNEAPOLIS NORTH TRIANGULAR Minneapolis North hosted city rival Edison and newcomer Trinity on Friday.
