This also ended the first round of the St. Paul Conference. Johnson was dominant holding Harding to one double digit set in singles and one in doubles. There was only one set that fell in the three points or less category and that came in the first set of third doubles. Johnson had twelve of the 14 sets go to double digit margins.

In the second set of the fourth singles match won by Star Thao, I experimented with a shot chart. I put the number down on the court on the point won by each player. I circled error points. Each player was a different color. The shot chart showed Thao scoring 10 winners on the racquet side for Harding’s Ester. Three were in the deep right corner. Only five winners were on the back hand side of the court. Ester’s errors in the net were to the racquet side three times. This could be useful in seeing strengths and weaknesses and requires more study. At the present I use the line by line scoring. It remains to be seen if I can juggle both. Charting could also be used for Serving and Serve receive placement.

I am now down to three unseen teams—–Edison (JV doesn’t count for varsity), Community of Peace and Math & Science.

SINGLES
1. Lor came up with 30 winners, 10 of which were clears. Lor owned all the prime stat categories but had a big advantage in serve/receive points at a .765 clip. Lor was also able to generate at least one point on nine of her eleven services. The match started with five straight for Lor. She then came up with a dozen straight during her next rotation making the score 17-2. Xiong had some life getting two runs of three late, the last holding off set point three times. Set two didn’t see much variation. Lor had the first run, this time of six to build a healthy 7-1 lead. The lead reached double figures at 14-4. Xiong was unable to get any run traction in set two and only was able to get two service points.

Category

LOR

XIONG

Side out

5/10-.500

2/11-.182

3+ Runs

5

2

Longest point string

12

3

Service points

29

7

Overall points

42

17

Points after 11

20

11

Strokes

176

84

Strokes per point

4.190

4.941

5+ rallies

14

8

2- rallies

13

4

WINNERS

30

9

Aces

1

1

Blocks

0

0

Clears

10

1

Drives

4

0

Drops

2

1

Soft drives

8

3

Smashes

5

3

ERRORS

8

12

Deep

0

0

Net

4

6

Wide

4

5

Serve

0

1

W:E Ratio

3.75

0.75

Margin

12.50

Set Point %

2/5-.400

Time

12:46.55

[5
SAINT PAUL CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS St. Paul wrapped up their two day tournament at Highland Park on Thursday with #1 seeds claiming the top prize.
