I should first explain a few things to the loyal readers: normally this<\/p>\n

The Wisconsin season actually opened on Tuesday, but I was unable to get a game because previous commitments. Today was the first time across the river and it wasn\u2019t far from the Stillwater base—-19 minutes across the new St. Croix bridge to Somerset. This was a battle between a big school from the Big Rivers Conference (Rice Lake—D2) and the smaller Middle Border (Somerset—D3). Last year Somerset won the Middle Border conference with a 13-1 record The Spartans are rebuilding their program after four seniors graduated including Montana State freshman Martell. Their presence will be hard to replace as the Rice Lake Warriors, behind UM Duluth recent signee Brooke Olson\u2019s 33 points put their stamp on the hosts 77-43. Olson\u2019s 33 points were almost the complete margin for the two teams. She controlled the right block with 11\/14 shooting (78.6%), was perfect at the free throw line making five and connected twice from three point range (40%). Olson also had an astronomical 206.2 pp100.<\/p>\n

At half RL led 41-32. Somerset didn\u2019t have enough gas in the tank in the second half and only added 11 more to their totals. The Warriors racked up 36 in the second stanza. Somerset had problems all night trying to stop the flex cut on the left block. Both teams allowed a lot of paint touches. Somerset was able to get to the lane on drives with 48 total paint touches for the game.<\/p>\n
