COMMUNITY OF PEACE 6, MATH & SCIENCE 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Community of Peace, in only their third match of the year, beat Math & Science in a Twin City Athletic Conference match in St. Paul. M&S was able to take the third doubles for their win. This match did have some tight sets, six that were decided by two points. Two sets went to extra points. The Tigers of COP won four of the tight sets. Both these schools are still growing into the sport. COP is in their third year of action, M&S is in their second. Most of the teams in the TCAC are charter schools with smallish gyms. COP is no exception with four courts. With the new conference, there will be an end of the year conference tournament just like Minneapolis & St. Paul. This year M&S will host the two day event on May 8 and 9.<\/p>\n

I now have seen all 23 teams that are involved in badminton this year. From here on out it will be off to see the best match available.<\/p>\n

FIRST SINGLES <\/strong><\/p>\n

COP\u2019s Shoua Thao won in a two setter, but neither set was like the other. The first set was an open & shut case; the second had twists & turns, plus improvement. Overall Thao had the advantage in winners 30-16. In the second set, both players had 13 winners. Isiaka was more active and aggressive in the second set which explains the upturn from three winners.<\/p>\n

In set one Thao had the big jump at the start with the first seven points including three aces (one of which was a fan). Isiaka never strung together a run and the only time their was side out on Thao\u2019s initial serve was due to Thao\u2019s own service error. For some reason I charted a 22-6 margin in this set.<\/p>\n

That all changed in the second set. Isiaka struck first with a run of four to pull ahead 5-2. Another run of five gave her a 13-8 advantage. Her last lead came after a tap smash at 14-10. A resurgent Thao racked up seven straight to go up 17-14. Isiaka responded with three straight to tie it at 17. Both sided out to keep it tied at 18. Two hitting errors ended the match—-by my count short of 21 (20-18)<\/p>\n

Both players focused on the middle of the court with their returns most of the game. You will see a new category on where the winners came below.<\/p>\n
