Revenge was in the air at first doubles. #2 ranked Nou Chee Yang & Bao Nhia Thao of Johnson got payback for their only loss of the year to #1 ranked Wamee Vang and Xiong Vang of Central. The margin was 10 in this contest. 16 days ago the Minutemen duo’s margin of victory in the three setter was 1.33. Central was able to get to double digits in three sets at singles (including both at first singles) and three sets at doubles. For the match there were no nail biters. The closest set came at second doubles, first set with a margin of five.

At this point of the year all four Johnson singles are undefeated at 16-0. That also is true at second doubles.

SINGLES
1. Khou Nou Lor, J def May Garvey 21-15, 21-15
2. Kasumi Vang, J def Malee Yang 21-7, 21-8
3. There has been a progression for Garvey with the first meeting in March a gap of nine, the second on April 11 was seven; today it was six. Lor, who only has one set loss all year, stretched the court and was able to maintain her balance in getting to the bird.

In the first set, Lor held Garvey to no runs while picking up two of her own. The first run of three gave Lor some separation at 5-2. Her next run of five gave her an 18-11 lead. The clear game provided six of Lor’s 15 winners. Garvey made use of ten errors, but could not generate her own winner after her ninth point.

In set two Lor cleaned up some of her errors cutting her amount down to five. Garvey went to her strength more and more which is the power game. She delivered six smashes out of her ten winners in this set. Four of those smashes found a home on the right sideline toward the back line. Lor spread her winners around. She was also the recipient of ten Garvey errors. Both players worked the back left corner and this is where Garvey had six of her errors. Neither player really got the winners there, it was primarily set up position. Lor did get the first run of four to grab a 7-2 lead. Another four points put her comfortably up 13-6. Garvey got her first run of the match starting with a six stroke block of a smash. Lor responded with her own run of three (16-9). The highlight of the match was an 18 stroke smash that went in Lor’s column on the 19th point. With her back to the wall, Garvey responded with two straight smashes followed by another block. A net error gave the bird back to Lor which she used for the final point, a five stroke soft drive to the left.

Category

LOR

GARVEY

Side out

13/21-.619

10/20-.500

3+ Runs

5

2

Longest point string

5

3

Service points

21

10

Overall points

42

30

Points after 11

20

17

Points after own errors

11/15-.733

7/16-.438

Strokes

167

115

Strokes per point

3.976

3.833

5+ rallies

14

10

2- rallies

15

8

WINNERS

26

15

Aces

3

0

Blocks

0

2

Clears

8

3

Drives

2

2

Drops

1

0

Soft drives

7

1

Smashes

5

7

ERRORS

15

16

Deep

3

6

Net

5

3

Wide

4

5

Serve

3

2

W:E Ratio

1.733

0.938

WINNER LOCATION

Back

10

2

Middle

8

12

Front

8

1

Left

12

8

Right

14

7

Margin

6.000

Set Point %

2/2-1.000

Time

13:41.56

JOHNSON 7, CENTRAL 0 #1 Johnson swept Central in St. Paul action today.
