The Rebels

nailed 13 3s on 56% shooting to defeat host Park Rapids. The five starters for DGF scored 69 points and the lowest point total of those starters was nine. Looking at their pp100 the starters finished the night at 130 (in the first half they were even better at 140). Another factor in the Rebels win came with their defense forcing 22 turnovers for a plus nine differential. Clearly it was the shooting that was the big difference. DGF outscored PR 39-6 from behind the arc. Rae Critchley was specifically deadly with a 5/6 night for 15 points against the PR zone. Natalie Stiechen ended the night with a triple double (see below) including two triples.

Sometimes my plans change. I originally was thinking I would see DGF on Saturday, but they are not at the same venue after a closer examination of the schedule. That put me in a scramble. With Stillwater not having school today, I was able to practice my squad in the morning. That allowed me to get out earlier for the three hour trip to PR. I was able to make the three hour trip without the benefit of rush hour and also coming across from the eastside.

PR had the early advantage as it took some time for DGF to heat up. The Panthers got off to a 6-2 start, but that advantage was soon to disappear. With 14:20 left (or after 3:40 of action) PR took a time out trailing 11-8 (9-2 Rebel run). The last PR lead came at 12-11. PR’s offense dried up soon thereafter as DGF exploded with a 17-2 run to take a commanding 34-18 lead. The lead improved to 41-22 at the break. A 20 point lead in the second half dwindled down to 13 points with 6:12 left forcing a DGF time out. A finishing kick of 17-4 ended the night.

DGF is now 17-1. The Rebels were knocked off their unbeaten perch last week by Heart O’Lakes conference rival Pelican Rapids. Park Rapids falls to 11-6. Both teams are section 8AA rivals.

One further note….On the way back, along highway 10, an eastbound train prevented us (Coach Teas was along) from turning south at four different opportunities. Instead of making the turn to Monticello, we road 10 all the way to Elk River and ditched the train. That escapade added three minutes to our trip.

Team

PP100

scorer

Distributor

D stops

DGF

124.6

Natalie Steichen 20

Natalie Steichen 13

Natalie Steichen 10

Park Rapids

84.6

Rilee Michaelson 18

Two with 7

Rilee Michaelson 7

TRENCH PLAYER: DGF’s Natalie Steichen with her triple double.

DILWORTH-GLYNDON-FELTON 81, PARK RAPIDS 55 13 was a lucky number for #2AA DGF on Monday night.
