HMONG ACADEMY 4, MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hmong Academy, road Warriors for the year, traveled to Roosevelt and won a battle of rookie coaches. Coua Lee is the new Hmong Academy coach, Choua Khang is the Teddies new coach. This was the second match of the year for Roosevelt. They opened with a 5-2 loss to Henry on Tuesday (which also was a battle of two first year coaches). This was the first match of the year for Hmong Academy.<\/p>\n

The Warriors put together their win with sweeps at every singles match. Roosevelt swept every doubles match. There were two sets in each division that went extra points.<\/p>\n

It was back to the badminton road after two days off.\u00a0 On Tuesday I traveled to Southwest, but the game with South was moved to the Tiger’s home. Wednesday I was at the state boys basketball tournament.<\/p>\n

FIRST SINGLES <\/strong><\/p>\n

Neng THAO 2, Alice OMAN 0
\n<\/strong>Hmong Academy\u2019s Neng Thao topped Roosevelt\u2019s Alice Oman by the same exact score 21-13. Thao had a dozen point advantage in winners and limited her errors to six per set. Thao had more smashes on the day. When she did have hitting errors in the net they were the result of smashes that didn\u2019t quite clear the net. The biggest stat category Thao controlled was in the side out game. There Thao had a .563 mark.<\/p>\n

In the first set Thao got space with four straight winners to go up 7-3. On her fifth service she added another string of five, but by this time the first three points in the run came via Oman hitting errors. After a seven stroke drop for point to make it 18, Oman put together her only run of the set to cut into the margin 18-12. Thao stopped the run with a six-stroke soft drive. Both players traded side outs to close the first set. The drop was the most effective for Thao in that set with five winners.<\/p>\n

Oman got off to the lead in the second set 5-2. Thao regained the lead with six straight points on her fourth service. The first four points in that run came on winners. Meanwhile Thao closed the door on Oman with five straight side outs. Oman indirectly helped with two missed serves in that sequence. Just like the first set, Oman strung together four straight points to close the gap at 19-13. A drop attempt on the third stroke ended in the net and Thao closed with a nine stroke drive.<\/p>\n
