The only matches of the day that went the distance was at fourth singles and second doubles. The Washington second doubles pair of Nyo Nyo Sein and Pa Shia had to rally from one set down. That was the tightest match for the first two sets with both being decided by the two point differential. The Eagles’ margin in both singles and doubles were similar. Both singles and doubles held Harding to single digits twice. Today the showcase shot shifted to the net with the soft drive taking center stage. Washington’s BeBe Say dropped teardrops from the back line the faded into winners 14 times in a quick twelve minute sweep of Harding’s Jumy Miko. Say limited Miko to only seven winners and coincidentally seven service points for the day.

As I stated previously the soft drive fade was the shot of the day. The first three points of the day all came on the soft drive with both players trading points and Say up 2-1. A monster run of a dozen points blew open the first set. The key point in the run came on the seventh consecutive point when Say came up with a nine stroke cross court drop. Miko was unable to generate any runs and was held to two winners.

Say continued to excel at the net, meeting Miko’s soft drives with lunging reaches. Say’s winners increased in set two with the drop (6) complementing the soft drive (7). Say ended up with 16 winners for the set. Miko led 4-2 getting the first run of the second frame, but they were all on Say hitting errors on the drop or soft drive. Say didn’t forge in front until about the same point in the first set. The Eagle used a run of three and then six to create separation on a 9-1 run (14-8). Miko battled back with her last run of five capped by a five stroke smash (14-13). A ten stroke soft drive to the right front corner stopped the surge and started Say on her way to close the victory with a 7-1 run.

Say, who missed the Edina Invitational, now has a season record of 4-1. Johnson’s Nou Chee Yang is the only player to force the blemish on the season. Miko is now 6-3 on the year. Johnson’s Nou Chee Yang handed Miko her previous two losses, both at the Edina Invitational. At the Edina Invitational, Miko faced the current Washington second singles player Jansaree Na and won in two sets 17/14.

Category

SAY

MIKO

Side out

10/14-.714

7/16-.438

3+ Runs

6

2

Longest point string

12

5

Service points

28

7

Overall points

42

21

Points after 11

20

10

Points after own errors

9

3

Strokes

160

84

Strokes per point

3.810

4.000

5+ rallies

9

9

2- rallies

5

5

WINNERS

27

7

Aces

0

0

Blocks

0

0

Clears

4

1

Drives

0

0

Drops

9

1

Soft drives

14

2

Smashes

0

5

ERRORS

14

14

Deep

2

1

Net

4

8

Wide

8

4

Serve

0

1

WINNER LOCATION

Back line

3

1

Middle

1

3

Front line

23

1

Left

16

2

Right

11

3

W:E Ratio

1.929

0.500

Margin

10.50

Set Point %

2/2-1.000

Time

12:11.90

[2,5
STATE TEAM TOURNAMENT St. Paul Johnson beat St. Paul Washington 5-2 to win their tenth overall team title and got revenge in the process.
