The question was where was the contest going to take place? In checking the conference websites this morning I discovered this non-con game. Since St. Paul schools were closed for the day, I contacted coach Diaz. I also contacted Community of Peace, which still had school. Their website indicated the game at Como, which conflicted with Como, who thought the game was at COP. It is a good thing the two schools are ten minutes apart, because after the Cougars arrived at COP, they gathered up the Tigers and headed back home. Como was missing players due to no school, and COP was not a full strength. The missing players did not slow Como down as they swept Community of Peace in quick fashion. The Tigers, who have only been practicing a week, only hit double digits in two sets. The average margin in both singles and doubles were north of 14 points.

I have now charted all St. Paul teams (seven total). With 24 teams to see I have now have seven that remain to be charted. I expect in the next two weeks to shave that down substantially.

SINGLES
1. This week has been tour of the favorite winner for certain number one players. Wednesday it was the clear; Thursday it was the soft drive; today it was the power game. Paw cranked it up with six smashes in the first set, and eight for the game in the win. Just like the last two matches I charted, the victor doubled up on winners (25-12) and service points (27-7). Paw did not allow Yang any service points in the second frame.

Paw garnered four winners in the first set continually increasing separation with Yang. Paw’s first run came as she trailed 4-3 (which turned out to be a 6-4 advantage). Of those first six points, three came via the smash. The next run had a softer side with two going on soft drives. A four point bump took Paw to a 17-10 lead. Yang was able to manufacture points off her serve in the first set. Her only run of the match came late with two straight aces along the wall side of the gym bringing the score to 19-15. After a missed serve the set was over, but I only had 20-15 at that point.

Set two quickly turned to Paw with an opening of three straight followed by a run of seven on the second service (10-1). The soft drive fell for four points in that sequence, with the three stroke variety providing three of the points. Paw wouldn’t get another run until the final four points.

Category

PAW

YANG

Side out

10/16-.625

5/16-.313

3+ Runs

8

1

Longest point string

7

3

Service points

27

7

Overall points

42

21

Points after 11

19

11

Points after own errors

6

7

Strokes

155

88

Strokes per point

3.780

4.000

5+ rallies

12

8

2- rallies

13

6

WINNERS

25

12

Aces

1

2

Blocks

1

0

Clears

3

0

Drives

2

1

Drops

2

5

Soft drives

8

3

Smashes

8

1

ERRORS

9

17

Deep

0

0

Net

6

10

Wide

1

6

Serve

2

1

WINNER LOCATION

Back line

4

2

Middle

11

3

Front line

10

7

Left

7

6

Right

18

6

W:E Ratio

2.083

0.706

Margin

10.5

Set Point %

2/5-.400

Time

13:07.74

COMO PARK 7, COMMUNITY OF PEACE 0 There was only one game in town today.
