This was the second meeting between the two teams and the Minutemen picked up a win to improve from a 5-2 loss on March 28. The fourth win to come in came at fourth singles when KaBao Xiong wrapped up her victory. At that point Como led 4-1. There were a trio of three set matches (first and third singles, plus third doubles) and all fell in the Central win column. Central’s May Garvey was the only one of the three to lose the first set and take the next two. 60% of the sets in singles were decided by three points or less, an indication of evenly paired teams.

Extra point sets went to Como 2-1, but the Cougars lost all three of those contests and all were in the three set matches. .

A flip of five points would have resulted in a Central 4-3 win.

SINGLES
1. There was a lot of stat categories where both players mirrored each other. The one big differential came in points won on the serve/receive game. 60% of Garvey’s points came in that manner. Tu Lor Paw took more lengthier points with 35% of her totals that way. Paw had ten five stroke wins in the first set, the same amount Garvey had all day.

Both players relied on the power game with a combined 26 smashes.

In the first set Paw got the first run of three (6-2) and kept the momentum. At the widest Paw led 19-13. A late surge by Garvey closed the gap to 19-16. Paw delivered 9 smashes in the set while Garvey used the drop and cross court drop for five points.

That late run carried over into the second set with Garvey up 4-1. Paw exchanged racquets after trailing 10-4. Right after that both players missed on three straight serves. Perhaps the warmer weather had something to do with the bird sailing.

The final set started off with a game of runs—-three to be precise. Paw got the first and third and led 7-4. Two services later and Paw was sitting on an 11-6 lead. With the mandatory switch the momentum shifted away. Garvey didn’t take the lead until a run of three put her at match point (20-18). Paw held her off with a nine and three stroke smash. Four straight side outs had the score even at 22. Paw attempted a short serve that found the net giving Garvey her fifth match point opportunity which she fell her way on an errant eight stroke deep hit by Paw.

<td
